  11. TSSAA: Reggie Grimes, No. 1 football recruit in state, ruled eligible at Ravenwood TOM KREAGER | NASHVILLE TENNESSEAN | 2 hours ago The top college football prospect in Tennessee for the Class of 2020 can play his senior season. Ravenwood senior Reggie Grimes II was ruled eligible to play this season by TSSAA executive director Bernard Childress on Friday, granting his hardship request, Grimes’ father told The Tennessean. Grimes is the top prospect in the state and a four-star recruit for the Class of 2020 according to the 247Sports Composite. Grimes was ruled ineligible by the TSSAA after he moved to Ravenwood from Mt. Juliet. He and his sister Reghan Grimes changed schools after his dad accepted the defensive coordinator position at Ravenwood. Reghan Grimes a sophomore, is a three-sport athlete who plays volleyball, basketball and track and field. "We felt like we had a good case," the elder Grimes said. "I'm glad the TSSAA saw it that way. "I'm glad this distraction is over with. I told Reggie when we found out that we weren't going to interview about it. It was a distraction. It was time to move on. He said, 'Yes sir.'" TSSAA rules state an athlete can transfer with a parent and be eligible immediately if they are a certified teacher at the original school and the new school. The elder Grimes was a classified employee at Mt. Juliet, but has now obtained his teaching license and will be a physical education teacher at Ravenwood. The TSSAA confirmed that Grimes was eligible but could not comment on the ruling of the hardship. Grimes had 48 tackles with three for loss in 2018 while at Mt. Juliet. He the No. 3 weak-side defensive end in the country and No. 39 recruit nationally. His top five include Alabama, Florida State, South Carolina, Tennessee and Vanderbilt. He will make his college choice on Nov. 2, the day after the high school football regular-season finale. The elder Grimes, a Hunters Lane graduate, played football lat Alabama and briefly with the New England Patriots. He said he was prepared to move the family into Ravenwood's school zone had the TSSAA ruled his children ineligible. That would have guaranteed the students' immediate eligibility. "I told them before we left (Mt. Juliet) that I wouldn't put them in a position where they would have to miss time," the father said. "That was before we left Mt. Juliet. I told them not to worry about it, to handle their business. The eligibility is going to take care of itself and that I was going to handle it. Even if they said, 'No, the rule is what it is,' then we would have just moved. There would have been as little as distraction on them as possible." Reach Tom Kreager at 615-259-8089 or tkreager@tennessean.com and on Twitter @Kreager

  13. Murphy Fair (dot com) recently released their annual "top prospects" lists, where they poll all high school coaches asking them to submit potential collegiate prospects, then to classify them by projected division of play (D1, D2, NAIA, etc.) Looks like the D1 talent pool is growing in the southeast corner, and the overall talent in the state appears to be ramping-up! Based on those who responded, here are the projected D1 prospects from the SE corner of our state: BAYLOR Reggie Upshaw Sr WR Michael O'Connor Soph QB BRADLEY CENTRAL Eduardo Trevino Jr. DL Austin Sanders Sr. OL CHATT. GRACE ACADEMY Will Slack Jr. RB CLEVELAND Robert McMahan III Jr. OL Austin Herink Jr QB Austin Massey So QB McCALLIE Eric Wolf Sr LB McMINN CO. Patrick Priest Sr. OL OOLTEWAH Brady Binder Jr. QB RHEA CO. Jacob Revis Sr. OL SIGNAL MOUNTAIN Reese Phillips Sr. QB Harrison Moon So TE SOUTH PITTSBURG Demetric Johnson Sr. Ath TYNER ACADEMY David Powell Sr. OL Of course, some coaches didn't submit a response, some submitted responses that didn't contain D1 prospect assignments, and some didn't assign a division (Boyd Buchanan). It's likely that there are more to be added, but this is a respectable crop of talent. Of particular note were the three sophomores that are already projected as D1: Moon at Signal Mountain, Massey at Cleveland, and O'Connor at Baylor. Will be fun to watch them all for a few more years.

Players will learn work ethic, discipline, consistency, and attrition in a relaxed professional atmosphere. Using the tools I’ve gathered from years of experience at higher levels, along with those I’ve adopted from coaches & players in the current Major League Baseball landscape, we will strive to reach the pinnacle of every individual’s potential. With access to players, coaches, and agents across the country, each player should be given the proper exposure in order to take their game to new heights. Based in Middle-Tennessee (Nashville), practices will be conducted within the greater Brentwood area (Grassland). We will participate in both local and out-of-state tournaments during the fall & summer portions when the players are outside of their school schedules. We are also budgeted to travel out-of-state more often than most other organizations, and will enter in both showcases & wood bat tournaments as well. Through in-depth practices and thorough instruction, we will learn how to execute the subtle intricacies of the game where winning becomes the ultimate byproduct. I was all-state at Thousand Oaks HS, started four years at both Cal. Lutheran University & Westmont College, and played against/alongside current MLB players such as Christian Yelich, Nolan Arenado, Mike “Giancarlo” Stanton, Mike “Mikey” Moustakas, Trevor Bauer, Mike Montgomery, and many more. I’ve studied hitting under the guidance of former 17-year MLB veteran & World Series champion (’81) Reggie Smith, learned managerial strategies from former San Francisco Giant’s winningest minor league manager Andy Skeels, and talk frequently with Page Odle of PSI Sports Management (represents Aaron Judge) about the state of the game. I absolutely love baseball, and enjoy passing the knowledge I’ve accumulated down to those aspiring to play at the highest levels.

  17. It happens every year, players are recruited to attend another high school and parents who think that the recruiting school will provide their daughters with the best opportunity to win and get a scholarship, send them to the recruiting school knowing that it is a violation. In Columbia, the top 8th grade players at Spring Hill Middle, Mt. Pleasant Middle, Culleoka Middle and Santa Fee Middle are headed to Columbia Central. Everyone knows that they were recruited, Coach Bugg was holding open gyms at Whitthorne middle in Columbia on Sundays and had contact with the players and their parents. Coach Bugg was turned in to the distract AD and he was called in for a meeting, but nothing changed. It was rumored that the district AD is a Columbia Central fan and has turned a blind eye to the obvious recruitment of the players. I don't know of anyone that would object to parents wanting the best for their daughter. But, how fair is it to the coaches, players, and fans that would miss out on having those players on their school team. These players are not moving into Columbia Central school boundaries they are just going to attend school to play basketball. Some coaches are very upset with Coach Bugg for his recruitment of the players. I think the players should be made to attend the school where they live or have to sit out a year and Coach Bugg should be reprimanded.
