well the turkey gods are smilin on me - went to a secondary location this morning not knowing if i would even hear a bird and low and behold 25 minutes before light i get in on a group of birds gobblin their heads off - after fly down took about 30 minutes and i'm starin at two longbeards and three jakes i shot a 11 in. gobbler and if the kids can help me i'll try to post some pics - I have never mashed a bird quite this hard , had close to 20 pellets in the head and blew parts of both beaks off- like i said earlier its a good disease - later JT

it must be nice to be able to go turkey huntin every morning. congrats on your turkey. im surprised they were still grouped up like that. i dont know if its different over in your area but i rarely see gobblers together after the first few weeks of the season., especially not gobblers and jakes together a month into the season. it looks like we're gonna have good weather this weekend, i cant wait to get out there in the morning...nothing like hearin an old tom out there gobblin at sunrise. you are right, its a disease. i hunted everything but turkeys when i was younger but i went about 6 or 7 years ago and havent missed a weekend since.

i would love to go every morning and do go every chance i get - sat. and sunday not one gobble , my son saw a group of 15-18 hens very vocal - i don't know whats up with that unless this unusually cool damp spring has the birds 2/3 weeks behind schedule - i'm holding out hope that when the weather gets pretty they will crank it back up but not sure- it has been a mediocre season so far, with no consistent spring- like weather to really get the hens moving in mass towards the nest- good hunting -jt

yea i'd say you got him pretty good. i've had some good hunts in the past week. they still wont gobble much but ive had birds all over me the past few times. saturday mornin i took a buddy with me and set him up on one...it was a good one too...11in. beard, 1 1/2 in. spurs...i would have shot it myself if i would have known it was that big. i played sick Tuesday and Wed. and it payed off. Tues. evenin was the best day ive had this year and i didnt even kill one. first i called up 4 jakes and then a big one came runnin in when he seen them, he got to about 60 yards and a hen snuck up right beside me and started goin crazy and scared them off. then i moved to another spot and called up a small gobbler(probably about 9 inches) but i had a hen right on top of me and i couldnt get the gun up to shoot him. then about thirty minutes later i called up 2 jakes and a nice bird came up right behind them. i shot him and when i was goin out to get him i'll be danged if he didnt get up and fly off. i went straight to walmart when i left and bought some different shells and got my redmeption wed. evening...10in beard 1 1/4 spurs. strange thing about it is that i didnt even hear a single gobble tue. or wed...10 birds with beards and not one gobble. 1 more day and im finished with college for the year and you better believe im gonna be out there everyday next week to fill my last tag with ole big daddy. good luck.

good luck , ive grown inpatient with their not gobbling . I may try it tomorrow but the weather patterns this year have made it tougher than most years - not to say this year (like every) hasn't had its highpoints - I would have to say my favorite was a strong rain and electrical storm at daybreak in northern missouri about two weeks ago ,every time it would thunder between 35 and 50 birds would gobble their heads off and it was thundering about every 2/3 minutes - i wish i had a tape recorder - i doubt i'll ever experience that again - went on for about an hour non-stop until my son and i killed two gobblers - good luck and its been fun exchanging stories - later jt

yea i know what you mean. the lack of gobbling has definitely taken away from the excitement this year. i gaurantee you i could add up all the gobbles ive heard this entire season and it would still be fewer than ive heard in one good morning in the past years. the only thing you can really do about it is find a spot where you know they are gonna come through and sit there and be patient. i killed both of my birds without hearing a single gobble, i just found a spot where they roosted at and cut them off in the evenings. its been dissapointing because the biggest thrill to me is hearing one hammer down about 50 yards. it could be worse though...atleast we've still killed birds.

    • Yeah, I don’t see that AC situation ending well. Let’s be real, AC is a super redneck school, always has been. Inner city boys and rednecks just don’t generally mix well, if you get my drift. Before it’s all said and done, there will be drama. As I’ve said before, people will sell their souls to win football games. It’s crazy.
    • Booger thinkin that it probably not unreal istical to be thinkin the TFP could be ones source..... Booger just sayin
    • Hard to believe that it’s two kids from The McCallie School, and one each from Dobyns Bennett and The Baylor School.  I really thought a couple of other kids would have made the podium this year.
    • I have said it many times before, Coach Phillips stated awhile back; "We coach players that want to be ROADRUNNERS!"  Even if they takes their lumps and bruises and its been bruises the last couple of years, they're still not going to recruit players.  If they stay, LETS GO!  If they leave, SEE YA LATER!  IT's HARD BEING A ROADRUNNER!     Fulton was tough back in the days when they won 3 titles, no argument there.   AC-  I think they beat Alcoa this year , Alcoa isn't all that and they will take their bumps and bruises this year. They won't cake walk 4A and I agree those parents will turn on the coach because they're playing outside kids
    • What I meant to say is, "They don't have to use MONEY or other things to get players to their program!"  Aren't very good?  1 State Title in School history speaks a lot , go figure!
