Cowboys Up gave me a list of the 16 teams in the Page/Centennial Classic today at the Brentwood Team Camp so here they are:

Spring Hill

Briarcrest

Smyrna

Page

Ravenwood

David Lipscomb

Independence

Lafayette, KY

BGA

Karns

Lebanon

Columbia Central

Culleoka

Nashville Christian

Hillsboro

Centennial

This list is subject to change as sometimes teams drop out and others are added.

I would assume that the format will be pool play with 4 teams in each pool followed by bracket play in Gold & Silver divisions.

Thanks, CU for the info.

The tournament field doesn't "appear" to be as strong this year. Last year's had Franklin and East Ridge. I'm sure BGA and Briarcrest are very good teams, but I dont recall them being talked about as powerhouses like Franklin and ER.

I am somewhat inclined to agree with you, KY, but there are several unknowns as teams always change from year to year. While I saw Lipscomb, Independence, BGA, Page, Hillsboro, & Centennial at the Brentwood Team Camp, several teams were missing players, but they are all decent teams. I haven't seen the remaining teams so far this season so it's hard to say how good they are. We'll just have to see how they develope by Sept. 2 & 3.

Hopefully that's NOT the case! Last year's tournament was GREAT because it was a big round robin and Lafayette got in 7 matches without even making it to the finals. Four team pools and then a tournament would yeild a max of 6 matches assuming a team even makes the finals. Most would probably only get 5 matches. I'd definately recomend not coming back next year under that format. Just way to big a drive for only a 5 match guarantee. The way it was set up last year is why Lafayette was so excited to return. We cant find a tournament like the Page Classic in KY as most are 5 match minimum guarantees. Could somebody find out how it will be done this year and post it. Hopefully it will be done the say way as last year.

I was wondering if CU had any more information as to where the matches will be played and the remainder of the pools. We have been told that Lafayette will play Lebanon, Independence, and Culleoka on Friday night. There will be a re-pooling Saturday morning, and then tournament play will follow. Thanks for any information. We look forward to the wonderful hospitality we were shown at last year's tournament.

GS,

If Lafayette is playing at the same level they did last year, then Independence will be your greatest test- and most enjoyable match as a fan- in pool play. Lebanon is playing fair ball and Culleoka comes from a weak district.

Page has always put on a great event and I expect it will be no less wonderful this year!

"Hopefully" the girls will be playing at a higher level than last year. In theory they "should" be much better considering only one key player was lost to graduation and the rest are all coming off very LONG solid club seasons in Lexington and Louisville. We will see next Friday I guess.

I have not seen a schedule with who will play who and where they will play. I will see if I can find out. I'll post when I find out.

Looking forward to seeing your team and families again this year!!!

    • Tax payer dollars are paid for certified teachers to "teach" and then coach. The primary job is to teach.  There are some district that ay awesome supplements and others that don't. Dyersburg and Dyer County are pretty close if I remember correctly. I would imagine that Football and basketball are above $10,000 now.  I've heard that Milan is $20,000 for boys basketball. I would imagine that football is more than that in Milan.  Collierville has camps that coaches get paid extra for. 3 camps a year, 100 kids a camp, $30,000 right there.  There are places like Memphis-Shelby County schools where the supplements are garbage even for the head coaches. I made less than $3,000 as the head assistant at Germantown in 2015 when we were 26-4 and one of the best teams in the Southeast. As a head middle school coach next year I will make between $4-5,000 at a municipal in Shelby County.  Coaches should be compensated for the jobs that are required but lets keep in mind that they are educators first.  It's pretty frustrating to other teachers that work their tale off teaching 6-7 classes a day to watch someone roam campus, not teach (or have very minimal responsibilities), and get paid the same (more with supplements) as a person who has the some years of experience or sometimes less.
    • This will get coaches leaving the profession very quickly if this kid wins this case. This is absurd...
