What makes a great coach?

Someone who can give a team a goal, but more imprtantly can give 30-70 kids individual goals.

Like the previous quote mentioned there are superstars and worst players on JV, but a great coach has them each working toward a goal, both want to get better and both know that the coach understands and appreciates what "better" is for each of them, and will work hard to challenge them both, and appreciate each of their sucesses equally!

Firm but fair.

Good Christian man.

Listens to his assistants.

Not afraid of change, but embraces it.

Highly adaptable.

Master of the game, inside and out.

Not afraid to take the back seat to the assistants, the kids, the parents, the fan base when the situation calls for it.

Humble in victory, gracious in defeat.

A stickler for fundamentals and getting it right the first time, every time.

A lover of the pratice field.

A master motivator, knowing just when to turn up with wick and when to throttle back as well.

A man who loves to be around kids, to teach them, to mold them, to help make them young adults.

A man who loves his schools tradition and embraces it in everything he does.

That's a pretty good start....

6) Someone willing to go to Middle school and Little League / Pop Warner games and "recruit" within your ranks. You need to have the young kids chomping at the bits to play for you, so they don't drop off into another sport, or no sport at all. They need to know that the prospect is as exciting for you as it is for them!

Great point, we do this at the high school in the summer. We have a youth camp and get the high school coaches and players to run it. Some of the the youngest kids in our first camp our incoming freashman. It could be the bigest class ever to come into our program. The older kids at the first camp that we put on our going to be this years seniors, they are 15 strong. That is pretty good for a 1a school. This could be the first year we have a true freshman team. We also put on a coaching clinic for the middle and pee wee program. We have had as many as 40 coaches for that.
