I'm sorry but once again I have to bring up Matt McCarty as a Tennessee great. He won 2 state championships before not even wrestling one day before he got into high school. Plus he was mean and strong. The man placed 6th as a freshman without even wrestling before high school. Give the man a little credit. He pinned his guy in the state finals in 00 by a pin in the 2nd. Plus he pinned another good wrestler in Shane Ritchie. Just imagine if this boy had wrestled before he got into high school.

I fully agree that McCarty was Excellent. some people also might not remember that he Teched Matt Sweeton at the beginning of that 99-00 year. He's one of those that was Good enough and repected enough that it actually made his Weight class (140) weak.

 

I hope he can crack the lineup at Michigan State one of these days (along with McKnight) and put 2 Tennessee boys in the lineup at a Big Program at the same time. hmmm......considering that statement, they'd better do it before Blackmon and Ward do it at OSU.

He also teched Phil Simpson when Phil was an 8th grader. Yeah that's right Phil didn't have just 1 loss his entire career unless it was to McCarty.

Growing up on a farm I learned to side-step the manure that you are spreading at a young age. Yes Phillip did loose a few matches as an 82# 8th grader wrestling against 103# kids. How many 8th graders do you know that could give up 21# and win any matches at all competing against the best competition in the state of Tennessee?

 

If McCarty is so good then inform everyone how he did at the senior nationals, NCAA's this year and any other national tournaments.

 

The point being that both Matt and Phillip are great kid's and people like yourself need to stop trying stir the pot when there is nothing in the pot!!!!!

Well coal, your right matt only placed 6th at nationals and no he didn't go to the ncaa tournament. I'll leave it at that. Looks like you win.

McCarty was a beast. I remember a state champion?? from Mater Dei defaulting during a match because his coach was afraid Matt would break him in half. Hope he is doing well at Michigan State. Would like to hear more about him.

i remember that at the brentwood tourney. the coach threw in the towel. I heard McCarty is still benching like 300. dude was a beast. I was at a tournament once and found out that the guy that beat me had to wrestle him. that guy got beat by him in the championship by pin. he was a monster.

he is good to a a point where he just out muscled everyone.that is all he did he had horrible technique. but dont even compare him to simpson. mccarty has been beat many times in his career. and who cares about 8th grade. i know people that went undefeated and are the biggest losers and they don t even wrestle in high school

You terribly underestimate him to say all he did was muscle and had no technique. One thing you can say about he and Simpson was they had great drive and a refusal to lose.

Can anyone give us current information on Matt. I would imagine that cattledontcare could give us an update. How has he done since he went to Michigan State? Did he redshirt this year? When will he get a chance to start? How did he do this year in the open tournaments that he competed in? All information is welcome so we can keep up with Matt.
