Between the pipes

according to Appendix II of the Rule book, which is entitled Record Keeping:

Goalkeeper saves—A save is recorded any time a ball is stopped or deflected by the goalkeeper’s body or crosse in such a manner that had the ball not been stopped or deflected, it would have entered the goal.

so if a shot bounces over the goal or just to the side without making contact with the goalie, it should not be recorded as a shot on goal. This also means that hitting the pipe is not a save.

Some leniency has to be given to the stat keeper, because you cant see everything, everytime ... but if you are counting every wide shot and every pipe, its not fair to the other goalies in the state

Agree 99%. If the goalie stops it from going in - that's a save - whether he is in the crease, kicks it, whatever.

My point was mainly that goalies who face 40 shots against them, and 10 goals are scored, should not get credit for 30 saves if some of those shots are 8 feet from the cage. Some of those shots are never going in. If 20 of those shots would have gone in but the goalie stopped them, that is really 10 saves.

That is the one discrepancy. How is a shot just over the top of the pipe on goal? If the goalie just stands and watches it, it is not going in. If he catches it above the pipe, that shouldn't be a save. If the shot would have gone in had the goalie not been there, then that is "on goal". So the goalie stops it - thus a save. So, depending on what is called on or off goal will determine the formula for saves.

By the way, many of these goalies discussed are super talented. Sometimes one just has to get out and watch them play. The truth is that some have a better supporting cast around them.

for any position you just have to get out and watch the guy play. stats can give you a decent idea of what a kid can do, but you can't really see until you actually see him play a game or two

you could have a low to high that that just missess or a bounce shot that hits the crease line or inside the crease and goes just over the pipe. at some point it is in the direct path and could be saved. just because he reacts late and it goes over doesn't mean the shot was not on goal. the same in hockey. Even in the NHL those guys make saves that are right at pipe level or a little above or wide and it is considered a save. its a judgement call but if its way high or to the side then no. like i said you have to consider it like a pitcher in baseball throwing a curve or breaking ball.

Ryan McConnel and Harris Abernathy are 2 goaltenders that people should watch out for this year although i havent had the chance to see them play this year im sure they will both be having some impressive all-state/all-american seasons and are both forces to be reckoned with

Ryan and Harris are both very splendid goalies. yet i have another lad in mind. have you ever heard the term... i believe it is.... PATRICK MCLEMORE?!?!?! :thumb:

    • Yea I agree I will say tho I was a big “ v “ fan if an  opening ever did happen I think it would’ve been good to see him have a shot coming from a power house like Oakland. I’m sure he’s learned a lot from Kevin.  I bet he would bring a really good offense scheme IMO But after all this I just dunno anymore.  Whatever happens with the rumors an such if it did come to and opening I think this messes it all up.  The board members dreams are slowly slipping away now. I haven’t lived there for awhile I just hear what I hear, but my question is would there be any good potential candidates?? That’s why I don’t understand why people want b s out so bad who else could do any better ?? IMO there’s nothing attractive about it? As I stated earlier I went to the last game last year and taking a leak in a porta Potty is pretty sad and still nothing being done they say ..

    • speaking of board members how can a man get arrested 12 days ago and still be head coaching a team in TC school system? looks like your right about the tc board members. I bet it would be different if they had a kid on the team
