Officiating at Spring Fling

I'm sure there are some who may disagree, but I thought the officiating was first class this year. We (Catholic) had three different crews and all were very consistent. All of them seamed to understand that the games were high level and they were goning to be physical. They really let the boys play without blowing the whisle every time players went shoulder to shoulder. Overall, I was very pleased with the officiating. (I just wish the posts were more generous)

I agree. In the Catholic/Dyersburg game, I believe that head official was the best Dyersburg has seen all year.. aside from Malcolm Pierce, who was at the Spring Fling as a Linesman.

The officals in the CAK-Catholic game today did as good a job as I have seen in calling the contact when a player gained a distinct advantage but letting the other stuff go, even when there were some pretty good collisions, if both players contributed to the contact.

The ref in the BGA-CBHS game should not have given the red card. Yellow card yes, but red was way too harsh especially for a championship game.

are you kidding? I don't know what you saw but he went in studs up from behind in frustration after he lost the ball. I guess i can see what your saying that it is a state championship game and the ref should let em' play but i don't think the ref had any choice but to give the red card. It was a bad challange at a bad time and the ref made the right call. Congrats on BGA for winning tho.

I was only able to see the three championship games today. But I thought that the officials did an outstanding job. Especially the three for the Knox Catholic/CAK game. These officials did a suberb job and I wish that we had more officials like the 9 that called the games today. You allowed this to be an excellent day of soccer. And the game swere decided on the field and their where no big complaints. And yes the red was the right call. You can not go studs up. It was the secnond time he had done that in the game.

i didnt really have a good angle but i thought that a warning would have been more suitable. well anyway overall the ref was very very inconsistent with his calls. there were fouls that were just as bad if not worse than that red card. but it went both ways. once again, congrats to CBHS for a great season and an unforgettable title game that was well played by both sides.

:thumb: good to see refs getting some credit for the fine job they did during such big games

I think the officiating for the CBHS vs. BGA was a tremendously bad job of officiating. The center ref had no clue. He is never in the right place to make the best calls. The red card foul called on the BGA player was pathetic. The CBHS players had many more fouls that weren't even a yellow. And the reply of the "spikes up" I was very close and that did not happen.

    • Congratulations to Coach Runyon. He seemed to do a good job when I watched his teams play. He didn't coach like he was ready to retire. With that being said... both coaching positions in the same district open... which one of these jobs is the best job and why?  also, it is a coincidence that they both leave at the same time...

    • good points. I guess the question is do the coaches need to be out of the classroom and get paid for just coaching. maybe move the coaching jobs to just coaching and no teaching. that would open up the coaching ranks to some good coaches that are not qualified to teach. Then you could do contracts and pay them whatever you want to pay them. move the positions to contracts.  Just like college. Thoughts?
    • It's not just DB, I don't think any of the NET big schools will ever be relevant in football.      Meaning in the playoffs.....
