PHargis
Saturday starts the one day Volley into the fall playday for JV and Middle School teams with Middle Schools from Lavergne, Siegel, Blackman, Avery Trace, Cookeville, USN, Page, Woodland and JV/Freshman teams from Blackman, Stone Memorial, Lavergne, Stone Memorial, Gallatin, Siegel, Christiana, Cookeville, Page. Some of these teams will have A and B teams. The events will be played at Siegel Middle School and siegel High School Main and Auxillary Gymnasium on Thompson Lane in the Boro. Indications are a large turnout for these matches with two matches being played at all three locations at the same time. There will be plenty of seating and the locations of Siegel Middle and Siegel High School are within a mile of each other. Match times start at 9:00 Saturday morning August 12 and trhe last matches are at 3:00. This will be a chance to see some of the best upcoming MS, JV players in Middle Tennessee and have those young players who are interested in sometime playing volleyball to attend and see what the sport is all about. Schedule is Below. NO HIGH SCHOOLS ARE PLAYING, ONLY HIGH SCHOOL .JV AND MIDDLE SCHOOLS Location Siegel Middle School Two Courts Court 1 2 9:00 Blackman HS/Stone Mem A 10:00 Lavergne/Siegel MS B 11:00 Blackman MS/AveryTrace 12:00 lavergne/Stone Mem HS B 1:00 Gallatin/Stone Mem HS A 2:00 Siegel HS/ Gallatin Court 2 9SiegelMS A/Blackman 10 Siegel MS A/Cookeville HS 11 Stone memorial HS B/Siegel Middle B 12 page/ Woodland 1 Siegel HS/Christiana Location Siegel HS Main gym Court 1 9:00 Avery Trace/Page 10:00 Page Stone/Stone Mem HS A 12:00 USN/Siegel MS B 1:00 Blackman HS/Cookeville 2:00 Blackman MS/Blackman HS 3:00 Siegel HS/Stone Mem HS A e Court 2 9 Christiana/ USN 10 Siegel HS'Blackman HS 11Stone Mem HS A/Cookeville 12 Blackman MS/Christiana 1 Avery Trace/Woodland 2 Siegel MS A/ Page 3 Gallatin/Cookeville location Siegel High School Auxillary Gym Court 1 9:00 Woodland/Gallatin 10;00 Blackman MS/USN 11:00 page/Siegel HS 12:00 Siegel MS A/ Avery Trace 1:00 lavergne/ Siegel MS B 2:00 Avery Trace/ Christiana 3:00 Siegel MS A/Woodland Court 2 9 Lavergne/Stone Mem HS B 10 christiana/ woodland 11 Gallatin/Blackman 12 Siegel hS/cookeville 1 Usn/Stone mem HS B 2 Siegel MS B/Stone Mem B 3 Edited August 11, 2006 by PHargis

PHargis
Bump For those of you that have an interest (probably none considering the response) the following is a report on the morning session as I could see it. The matches started at 9:00 and as I drove into the parking lot at Siegel High School it was evident that everyone was there plus for it was about filled. After looking into the arena which had 4 matches to be played at the same time, from 9:00 to 3:00, both arenas had just about filled up as was the Middle School when I reached there and I thought, pretty good turnout for a High School JV/ Middle School Play Day. And as the day went on the attendance got better. All playing floors were filled with jumping, screaming, running, rolling players that only those associated with those age groups can appreciate and their coaches, a group of very good people whose job was to harness the energy of a large group of players on each roster. The rosters seemed larger than I imagined I might see. Some teams came in with 25 to 30 players. While I did not see all games or teams, I saw no roster less than around 18-20. VB must be attracting someone. This was a high energy event. Overall skills were much better than anone I talked to imagined for some of these kids, probably on each team had played this summer and some hadn't. Someone had worked with a lot of the teams on serving as it was particularly brisk and there were a number of players, even in MS, that were spiking the ball with a lot of velocity. Those teams around the Boro seemed to have attracted a lot of players there as Lightening was mentioned. Even the smaller schools had players attending camps and some were even interested in pursuing the sport at a higher level. Setters were at a premium on most teams and there were a few really good setters even at this age. Somebody understood quickness and position because most every team seemed to recognize that. The coaches were exceptional in their demeanor and patience(which was particularly evident with this age group). Between matches I passed numerous meetings going on with a coach spending the time explaining what had happened while the players were getting a quick bite to eat. Which brings on another subject. Siegel High School does nothing unless it is first class and this was so in every phase of the operation. Coach Slaughter knows how to put on an event of this type. The concession stand was not quite as good as Brentwood High at their VB sessions but it was close. Specially made Tees screened for the event were on sale in the most vibrant colors and one catchy one in particularly said "Welcome to the Slaughter House" and Siegel patrons were wearing those. officials, Siegel Players, were gad in irredesent yelow Tees and could be found easily along with the scorekeepers. Teams who looked especially sharp, and I did not see all of them, were BlackmanMS, Stone MemJV,Avery TraceMS, lavergne, christiana, page, Cookeville, Siegel HS and Siegel MS among others. This whole area has gained from this event and the excitement generated from it. It will make a lot of fans come back as the season progresses. The volunteers and parents the players deserve a pat on the back.

While things may change, transfers, etc but after the playday finished a concensus opinion is Page and Woodland seem to have a lot of potential in these age groups. As you might realize, predicting is tenuous at the best but its hard to take growth off when a JV is 6'2" and athletic as one of the players is but a lot of things can happen.
