If you do not want to hear the band or cheerleaders, take some earplugs. They are both as much a part of high school football as a scoreboard with burnt out light bulbs.

No need for such drastic measures when the crowd generally drowns both out. I've also learned to block them out by actually watching the game. Every now and then a high-pitched scream or errant bass drum will penetrate my focus, but very rarely.

Ok...its been stated before but...

What is with the band playing during offensive drives??? Happened tonite at the game I was at. The visiting team brought their band (big mistake) and the director did not even look to see what was going on on the field...he just went on and played whenever he felt like it and that was never when the opposing teams offense was on the field...only his own :D If I was the coach I woulda jumped in the stands and ripped that band director a new one....especially when his team fumbled during what could have been the game tying drive and no one could hear the coaches and players yelling "BALL" because the band was busy playing "wooly-bully"....the band director just turned around and looked at the field like..."oh wow what just happened?"

As a former cheerleading coach and wife of the head football coach, I soon learned that if the cheerleaders did not involve the crowd at a critical moment or the band played at the wrong time, I would hear about it that night. It wasn't long before the band director and I joined forces, with me signalling band chants and cheers from the stands at critical moments as my husband was calling plays from the sidelines. In 20 years of coaching, I was rarely able to depend on my squad to understand the necessity of using one word chants such as "De-fense, de-fense. de-fense etc." at a critical moment, rather then a long, involved cheer that the crowd cound not hear or understand because they were standing yelling De-fense!

Do I believe that cheerleaders, bands, concession stands, annoying announcers and little kids playing football with a crumbled coke cup add to the atmosphere of a football game - of course I do, and it wouldn't be the same without them. But with all that said, the reason for Friday night is THE GAME.

I believe that cheerleaders are there to get the crowd up for the game. Cheerleaders should know the game well enough to know the difference between offense and defense. 1Fan must have been a good cheerleader coach to get the band and cheerleaders on the same page. No need for a cheering section the band could be it.

I don't think the cheerleaders should face the field. They need to face the crowd to "lead" the cheers. Cheerleaders facing the field just gets them ignored by both the crowd and the players. How many football coaches want their players watching the cheerleaders during the game!!

You know that at some schools people only come to see the bands since the football team is nearing the state record for consectutive losses i.e Blackman where we've lost 15 straight!!

Bands who think you came to the game to see them :thumb: instead of the game you paid good money to see.

Fans who think they have to yell PASS, SWEEP or any other play the opponent is running thinking their players can hear them.

Parents who think this is an individual sport for their child and do not realize that all the guys are trying their best. The line is trying to block, the defense is trying to wrap-up a tackle. Parents do not need to critique other people's children from the stands.

People trying to sneak a smoke in the stands - we can smell you!!!

1. That's no where near a state record for losses.

2. If you want to see the band so bad then go to the band competitions to see them on Saturday.

AMEN. This is ridiculous. And don't you know that I wear a sign to every game that says "If you sit or stand behind me - Please be the most obnoxious person here today!"

And don't get me started on how blind the refs are to these people. OFFSIDES! HOLDING! Get a whistle and your 300 lb. butt out of the stands and go call a game!

    • Yep..could possibly have 3 teams ranked in top ten in the same four team district.
    • He had an opportunity to be the OC at TC without final say in the offensive gameplan. How does that work? Smh. Head Coaches are public figures regardless of the community size, and yes there are some out there, it’s irrelevant and not fair to them to name them on here. Also why is said “head coach” the head coach of the MS baseball program to begin with? Oh because no one wants it. As for the Lebanon question, I know what I’ve been told so just going off here say, some of the boosters were not happy with his roster decisions and wanted him out. Although he lead them to 20+ wins in multiple seasons
    • A head coach in the school system? No I dont think so. Head coaches are public figures in small communities. Not trying to slander, but this is an actual question. Do you know why he was forced to resign at Lebanon? This was his second chance.  He already left trousdale once and had an opportunity to come back a couple of years ago but spoiled that.
    • Are you perfect? Nope no one is, at the end of the day there are several teachers/coaches and even some in the Trousdale County school system that have DUI’s on their record. You’re correct on it being a bad mistake and it unfortunately could have ended horribly. While you consider the consequences minimal, I can assure you they are not. Ultimately I hope and have faith that he will learn from it and use it to better himself.
