Bad Coaches with Winning Records

when it comes to high school basketball it is not about the coach. all the focus by the coach should be for the player. there are a lot of coaches that do the x and o thing but they dont have good management skills. a good coach is a teacher of the game. the coaches that teach the fundementals of the game are the coaches that are successful. coaches forget sometimes that high school players are still kids and not adults.

A good coach is also a good teacher of life as well.........too many times today coaches have to teach and coach kids who have absolute losers for parents. It is not the coaches job or teachers job to raise your kid, that's called parenting and if alot of parents would stop worrying about how many shots their kid gets and start worrying about the type of person they are raising, we all would be alot better off.....

Playing the same 5 until approx 2 left in 3rd Q. losing by 20, "Why does everyone look so tired. I guess I don't have anyone on the bench good enough to play?

What about a coach that doesn't play a senior at all on senior night, and the game will not effect the standings for the districts?

Who did this?

lets not forget that having good players is probably the most important part of a coach winning!!!! Remember when Lou Holtz went to South Carolina and went 1-11 his first year...2 yrs later he went 11-1!!!!! He didn't remember how to coach!!!! He got better players!!!!!!!

Yes, this really happened, and things like this will continue to happen from a bad coach with a winning record. (As the topic goes). My word from the county is that a couple of Seniors did not leave the bench.

You stated several times that this was not directed at anyone. Now the truth comes out. Sounds like sour grapes. by the way, you get great credibility when you get your info from "your word from the county". Its not about wins and losses, its about whether or not my child plays enough, scores enough, is not yelled at, is captain, and we win. And you do not have to be a coach to have this opinion!

Heavy stuff Tigerball12, I guess I will skip the therapist this week. You have me pegged. I just wish I had a child playing so I could really fit your remarks. I want to be captain, forget the kid, It's about me uh.

    • I think they will find a good back, maybe not a Dozier, but I think one that can do the job. Same way with the receivers. I think Coach Rang is an excellent judge of talent from what I have seen and he will put the best players on the field.  As for the indoor facility, I hope there are plans down the road, I know in the new world of wide open recruiting, facilities matter. I was very glad to see the nice updates to the track facilities by the way, track has always been a big part of ORHS Athletics, as the poster said, going back to the track championships in the 50s and 60s, A lot of football players run track and it helps them become faster and quicker in the fall.
    • Yea, they have Davey quaking in his boots. Someday they'll even have a winning season.
    • Guessing this may have been the closest I can think of...... Bill Harlow: (from wiki) After leaving OSU, Harlow went on to win three national titles in freestyle wrestling.  He won a silver medal at the 1970 World Wrestling Championships, falling to Soviet Gennady Strakhov in the finals at 90 kg.
    • The Simpson brothers had good freestyle careers.
