TMSAA rules for the Chattanooga area?

Here is my questions. What is the rule for players at the middle school level? do they apply the same as they do for high school? and does the TVAC conference have their own set of rules that are different then the TMSAA? We are hearing different stories and i have not been able to find out the truth. We hear that TVAC schools will not allow players to play in club ball and school ball at the same time. That hurts the girls but ok we have to fallow the rules HOWEVER in Hamilton County girls CAN play both at the same time. Now we all know (all of us who have been around the local clubs that is) that the clubs have played in tournaments useing girls who play on thier middle school teams (exceptions to some TVAC girls that i do know about) for as long as its been around. and this year is no different as there is a local tournament set for later this month. Year in and year out we see the same girls both at school games and in weekend club tournaments. Because of this we have been lead to believe that it is a different rule. So what is the truth? are they different rules?

Hi.

Here is how it's been in the past. If the school is TSSAA then during the player's school VB season they can practice with their club, but not compete with their club. Before their school season begins and then after their school season is over they can compete with club. That has been very clear and our club never violated that, not sure about other clubs.

If the school is not TSSAA then my memory is not clear, seems like some yrs they played club, some they did not. I believe one non-TSSAA league had a league rule about not competing in club during their school season. You'd have to go to the league administrators for that one. But, the key factor is whether or not that league is under TSSAA jurisdiction.

good luck

Let me also add, if I may, that TMSAA is middle school and many, MANY schools do not participate through the TMSAA. Our middle school is in Wilson County (Middle Tennessee) and although we have had a volleyball program for as long as memory serves, we have never participated through TMSAA but rather formed our own WCVA (Wilson County Vb Assoc).

Things are a bit different when dealing with middle schools, they don't all automatically fall under the TMSAA like High Schools do with the TSSAA.

Thank you both for getting back to me. I do believe that we now have the right answer for our girls. The misunderstanding was for the girls last year who did play both club AND middle school volleyball at the same time were NOT in either 8th grade and or on the varsity. The rule turns out that an 8th grader can NOT be on a 8th grade varsity and also play club ball. a 7th grader who is J-V can do both. now that is a stupid rule but it is the rule. So last year the girls who did both were only in 7th grade and on the JV team. Now these same girls are 8th grade so they are knocked out. I HATE how this kills just the 8th grade girls. But we have to fallow rules. Now we need to try and find some club tournaments in March and April to cover for the 4 we lose while middle school is going on.
