QUOTE(coacht @ Feb 25 2007 - 11:39 AM) 826388394[/snapback]Posting pictures that are hosted on another site is inappropriate but a lot of members do it and I don't have a way to monitor it. The animated pics some users have is why some fans, espcially those still on dialup, find the boards to be slow. If there was a way to eliminate them I would. Think about loading a thread with 100 posts on it and 25% of those posts have a gif or jpg that is a meg in size.

Question - Why is posting pictures hosted on other sites inappropriate? If they are copyrighted or premium content I understand (and prohibited on most sites) but some hosting sites are made just for that purpose (PhotoBucket, YouTube, etc). Or is it because it slows down dial-up member's use of the boards?

I forget that people still have dial-up. I am on high speed cable so things like that don't affect me as much. Maybe TheCripDevils original suggestion of a board just for pics and videos for us that do have high speed connections. Of course if this slows down other parts of the CoachT site then I would rather wait until the site can handle the load. Thanks for looking into it.

Since you got on the subject even with cable the CoachT board is one of the slower boards I get on. Is a server upgrade in future plans? I know plus memberships and advertising don't bring in a lot to work with but sometimes even when traffic is not high the boards move pretty slow and often they just completely bog down on Fri nights after football games

Every time your picture loads it costs that other site money (bandwidth) and they are getting nothing in return.

Except for the times when we are having a server problem I don't have any problems loading the boards. We have made a lot of little improvements since the fall so I hope we can handle the higher traffic of the future. We will find out the rest of this week, I imagine.

That's not the case with PhotoBucket.com, imageshack.com, tinypics.com and YouTube.com, (and others) since they are set up specifically to host photo and videos for free and they get bigs bucks from all the advertising on their site. Now linking to another site that is not set up to do free hosting does rob them of bandwidth so there are concerns that would have to be addressed.

For me it sometimes seems slow when it shouldn't be. It may have been during the times of sever problems. More Power is always good and I do like the changes

That is correct as far as putting the image here, there is no link back and no direct advertising. But when I host the picture I have to go to their site and see their advertising and then I usually browse around while I am there. When I log in there are 3 or 4 ads on my page then 3 or 4 ads on any other pages I go to. Somehow those guys (and the other sites too) are making a ton of money and they want you to host there, they even advertise trying to get you to host there.

    • Agree with most of this and add that it takes a "type A" personality to be successful as the top guy. Lots of folks are knowledgeable of the game, have the skills to co-ordinate scheduling, officials, duties, rosters, etc... What they lack is natural charisma and the innate ability to convince young men that they care for them, and what they're teaching them will make them successful if they contribute their effort. Football can be learned...leaders are born.
    • Understandable. I honestly couldn’t remember. When you lose your starting QB especially in high school it’s a big blow
    • Gotta keep it real here.  Nobody is twisting their arm making them coach football.  There are more high school football coaches around here than ever.  Schools that have the same enrollment today as they had 50 years ago have 5-6 coaches instead of two.  Every head coaching vacancy will get a flood of applications.  Well over 20 at West Carroll from what I read earlier in this thread.  There's more men getting into coaching each year than are getting out.  The fact is that there are far too many high school football coaches out there.  Like I said, just keeping it real.
    • Off the top of my head WV finished 3rd and RC finished 4th. I think both lost close games in the first round. Overall they were pretty evenly matched last year.
