Marion Co. scored 3 unearned runs in the bottom of the 1st as Kevin Layne reached base on a FC3 and advanced to 3rd on a infield throwing on a ball hit by Sam Griswald that should have been the third out of the inning. Nick Wilson then hit a HR to left field that also scored Layne and Griswald as Marion Co. took the early lead at 3-0.

 

Gibbs answered in the top of the 2nd with 5 runs as Elijah Turner started it off with a double, advanced to 3rd on a single by Matt Sanders, and both scored on a double by Dew Housewright. Housewright's CR Taylor Sawyer advanced to 3rd on a sac bunt by Travis Peters, and eventually scored on a sac fly by Elijah Bales. Ray Burchell and Jordan Livesay both walked and Burchell and Livesay's CR Jake Nipper both scored on a double by Chris Armstrong to make it 5-3 Gibbs.

 

Marion Co. added a run in the bottom of the 2nd as Bubba Newsome reached base on an infield error, advanced to 2nd on a single by Zeke Guyear, and scored on a single by Blake Fowler as Gibbs still leads 5-4.

 

Gibbs added 2 runs in the top of the 4th as Travis Peters singled, stole 2nd, advanced to 3rd on a sac bunt by Ray Burchell and scored on a single by Jordan Livesay. Livesay scored on a triple by Chris Armstrong as Gibbs now leads 7-4.

 

Marion answered in the bottom of the 4th with 4 runs as Bubba Newsome, Zeke Guyear, and Blake Fowler all singled to load the bases and Justin Bell doubled to score them all. Bell scored on a single by Kevin Layne as Marion took the lead at 8-7.

 

Gibbs came back in the top of the 5th with 4 unearned runs as Elijah Turner started it off with a single, Matt Sanders reached base on an infield error, and with two outs, Ray Burchell reached base on an infield throwing error that scored Turner. Elijah Bales then singled which scored Sanders. Jordan Livesay then doubled which scored both Burchell's CR Taylor Sawyer and Bales as Gibbs took the lead at 11-8.

 

Marion added their final 2 runs in the bottom of the 5th as Zephan Guyear reached base on an infield error, advanced to 2nd on a single by Joe Muir, advanced to 3rd on a walk by Bubba Newsome, and scored on a balk. Muir scored on a 6-3 ground out by Zeke Guyear to make the score 11-10 Gibbs.

 

Neither team scored in the 6th or 7th innings as Gibbs took the win at 11-10.

 

Gibbs advances to play USJ following the game between Marshall Co. and Marion Co. tomorrow.

 

What a night of baseball in Smyrna!!!!

neither team played their best ball....but it was fun ball to watch. Both teams played hard and Gibbs just got the better of us tonight. All our boys played good. Willie Moe with the jackshot, The Guyear boys manufacturing runs, J. Bell with a huge clutch hit for us,but Satch just didn't have it tonight and credit goes to Gibbs. Good luck to them against USJ and hopefully we can put that behind us and maybe we can meet again.

Note that the TSSAA box score is different from my account as they changed some of the errors to hits for both teams. I will correct my report when I get time.

You are correct, luvbball. I looked at the wrong roster when making my report. The relief pitcher was Lucas Loyd as you indicated. Sorry for the error.
