I understand that EHS has their man but is waiting till he moves here to announce. Apparently he is someone reccommended by the local Twins people (Ray Smith) who played at Milligan, and married a local girl, but has been away from the area for awhile. Should be made public by the end of the month. Not a name that most will be familiar with.

Well the end of the month is here, can we have the name of the new coach now?

Well the Eliz Star let the cat out of the bag - the new Head Baseball Coach will be Joe Nix a 2001 Milligan College graduate that has been coaching in Arizona and has ties with the area thru the local semi pro teams. Looks like Elizabethton has pulled out all the big guns and got quite a few new faces, lets see if they last. Best of Luck!

The EHS administration asked that the story stay "unannounced" until everyone was "in town." Now that could mean, until the new coach was actually in town; or, until vacating administrative personnel had returned.

Okay, fine.

But last time the Star sat quietly, the Press was scooped and ran the story, leaving the Star looking inept, and leaving Star subscribers to wonder why their hometown paper was being upstaged; a whole 'nother story.

For our part, based on reliable sources, we "speculated" that Coach McKinney had the inside track, even as the job had been offered, and accepted by Coach Nix.

To their credit, the Star staff again took the high road, and agreed to wait. Meanwhile several locals, acting on information supposedly garnered from the Twins organization, found the story in the Arizona press. There was simply no reason to wait any longer. In fact, Wes Holtsclaw and Tim Chambers are to be commended for waiting as long as they did.
