Save the Preds Rally

Recommended Posts

If you really want to keep the team here, here's your chance to do something. On July 19th, the OUR TEAM campaign will be holding a day-long ticket drive at the Sommet Center. At six o'clock that same night, there will be a rally hosted by George Plaster. This is our chance to show Canada that passion for hockey lives deep down south as well.

And Houston ended up with a team....

5 years after the team the rally was supposed to help left, yes, they did. Mainly due to the NFL not wanting to have an odd number of teams because of the embarassment they suffered when the Browns hopped ship for Baltimore and giving a team to Cleveland 3 years earlier. That, plus LA was not viable.

Given the current state of the NHL, I don't think the same scnerio will apply.

The difference here is the fans actually have an avenue to keep the team. 14000 season average. If the Preds can't average 14000 fans then a team doesn't need to be here.

As long as you admit that, then I am ok with the rest.

I do think it is going to be hard this year to get there. But, we will see.

Ticket sales are 25% ahead of last years pace....and the Preds averaged 13,815 last year. The team will be good, but will also feel the effects of some of the salary dumps that have occured. The club needs stable (new) ownership as Liepold has stated he doesn't want to lose money.

It seems that Kansas City is once again at it to steal a team. They honestly have a very strong selling point to get the Preds. A brand new arena. All luxury seats SOLD. Pro teams aren't to be trusted. They make cities bend over backwards to come, then when things start to slide, they are on to better things, often leaving cities in debt with multi-million dollar event centers left to rust at the taxpayers expense. That is the threat. KC is offering a hard sell.... BUT... one needs to keep in mind that they lost TWO pro teams over the years. They lost their own NHL franchise after only like 2 years in the 1970's, and they lost their NBA franchise in around 1984. In terms of market size, they are simlilar to us...

Pro sports teams don't care, though. They will go to whoever provides them that stable situation at that current moment. Nashville's business community has failed us. Period. We have one of, if not THE highest civilian-owned season ticket sale bases in the NHL. The local businesses will definitely feel not having people downtown 42+ nights of the year. They are the ones who need to step it up.

Regardless....everyone needs to show up at Plaster's rally, and also, those interested, my friend's band will be one of four local rock bands playing The Rutledge on Tuesday July 10 for a Save The Predators benefit. Silent auction, you name it. If you are in town, or close by, feel free to come join the cause

Much rather deal with this guy than Ballsy.....I believe he realizes the NHL is gonna frown on moving the Preds because contractually, it states a good faith effort in the city. Now, if we don't sell the tickets, he has every right to move the team, but I don't believe we will see the same approach as ballsy took....selling seats in Hamilton, etc. This guy is a minority owner of the Sharks and wants to own a team. I believe he will be perfectly content in Nashville as long as the team makes money, aka butts in the seats....

See you at the rally.....Get your tics..... BTW, I'm still in my same section but was able to move to the front row....
