timbdp
It's Official: Sonics Deal Allen, Get Green Moments ago, Sonics Chairman Clayton Bennett and GM Sam Presti met the media to talk about selecting Kevin Durant with the No. 2 pick and confirmed that the Sonics have sent Ray Allen to the Boston Celtics, getting back the rights to No. 5 pick Jeff Green, guard Delonte West and forward Wally Szczerbiak (also part of the deal, not previously reported, is Boston getting the No. 35 pick in the second round; the Sonics will receive a future second-round pick). Both Bennett and Presti praised Allen for his four-plus seasons in Seattle, and Presti called the decision a very difficult one, indicating Boston "came hard" to get Allen. Presti was thrilled to get Jeff Green, and when you pay attention to some of the Presti's hallmarks of a new Sonics culture - defense and versatility - Green is a perfect fit. Beyond the top two picks, Green was the best all-around player available in this Draft. In his final junior season at Georgetown, he led the team in scoring (14.3 ppg) and was second in both rebounding (6.4 rpg) and assists (3.2 apg). At 6-10, he has the ability to potentially defend up to three positions in the NBA.
