Why in the world is Smyrna having Homecoming so early in the season? And against Lebanon?? I know those guys there get REAL defensive about being a team's Homecoming opponent. Is it like it is at OHS....the coach has no control over who they play for Hcoming or when?

yeah I was bummed about it being so early. I don't have any control over it so I'm just not gonna sweat it. Looking on the bright side is that its in warmer weather than last year's.

why in the world would smyrna overlook a team that smyrna's coaches and others in the region think will play for the region title.

lets be clear I know smyrna I know their players and trust me this is the game they have been looking toward.

They have played well in their first 2 games in an almost workman like fashion with not a lot of emotion.

all they have heard is this lebanon team is good and will challenge smyrna and riverdale for the title

I believe lebanon will find a team with 2 wins under their belts against 2 playoff caliber teams that is ready for a challenge.

I don't think Brown was never the interim principal. He was handling some assistant principal / AD duties for half a day last school year -- mainly discipline and paper work, checks for the spring umpires, schedules for the weight room, that sort of thing.

I think the jury is still out on the new principal. His father Jim Wilson was a longtime successful football coach in Metro and at Goodpasture, so he has certainly been exposed to the game.

In my opinion, it's difficult enough to win at the 5A level when everyone is pulling for you -- imagine how hard it might be if the administration was less than supportative. Just look at how supportive Mr. Watson was at Riverdale. Whenever Rankin really needed something, he got it and the school as a whole flourished as a result.

    • Why would the tax payers be responsible for paying for only a coach? In recent years with all the theft from various programs in schools from different programs with booster clubs (not just sports) the State of TN has made alot of rules surrounding booster clubs and how they handle money.  I have two documents to review, 1 is 40 pages from the state comptroller and the other is 37 pages from my district, so I can consider starting a booster club for my middle school program. It has been too much trouble in the past for the other coaches.  There is no way there needs to be an adult in the school building for 7 hours a day with no responsibilities except coaching.
    • The only thing that was said at half time of the 45-0 game was Coach Story, he said: "I know y'all have been out there a lot, but kick-off team, y'all need to get down there faster!" Then he and the other coaches proceeded to go into the coaches office and we all went nuts!  It was the only time I can ever remember coaches not saying anything at half time. Definitely a great memory!!!
    • Boyd could actually be a grade below what he is now, but his parents didn't see the need to "redshirt" him like the other city school down the road would have pushed for....
