Volleyball state rankings?

Recommended Posts

WOW I opened up a good one didn't I? Well it seems safe to say that a true State poll can not be found but that many members have their own ideas as to who is the best in the state. With my daughter now playing both club and school ball for the last three years all over the state I have had a chance to see some very good volleyball played. I am not about to do any rankings as I have not seen every game nor I have not seen ever team. But of the teams I have seen I would say that Brentwood, DB, GPS, Ooltweah, AC, Greenbrier, KC, Independence, Red Bank, Father Ryan, would have to all be in my top 10. now again this is just a list of teams that I HAVE seen play first hand. So what can we as members do to help clear this up in the future?

South is not 5th or 6th they finished 3rd. Would not be a major upset if they come out of the confrence. Science Hill is not looking that swift in the past few games. Central went 5 with science hill last week. South has went five with DB real early in the year. Science Hill beat DB. I would say DB and Science Hill are favored, but no earth shattering upset if one of them gets beat. UT winning out the rest of the year in football would be a major upset. /blink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blink.gif" />

Well last time I checked it was DB, Science Hill, TN High, then South...so maybe there 4th but I haven't kept up with the TN High matches to well so I don't know if that is exact.. I guess we will save the words now and just see when it comes down to districts next week how it turns out sense talk is cheap.. Science Hill has struggled this week a little but I wouldnt count them out and DB has 3 starters hurt but they should all be ready to play midweek of districts I read on Tri-Cities Sports..I guess time will tell how the season will turn out for both teams!

A week or so ago TN High was above South in the standings, but this was mostly due to who they had played. If you check tricitiessports.com now you will find South has clinched 3rd with a 11-4 district record (one left vs Central) while TN High is 10-5 (one left vs DB). Even if TN High pulls the upset and South loses, South gets 3rd since they swept TN High.

You are right though that what happens in the district tourney is all that really matters.

Your right, Benedict did beat Hutchison in five games. Do you remember the other two times the Hutchison beat St. Benedict?

I am not saying Hutchison should be number one, but they have to be at the top when talking teams out of Memphis. Father Ryan and GPS have proven themselves so they probably deserve to be at the top until proven otherwise. The privates in Memphis are far better than the publics...head to head prove that.

relax, chosenone,

There's no doubt that Hutchison is one of the best teams in Memphis. I'm not saying Benedict is better. I don't really have a dog in that fight.

Unfortunately, not many people from West Tennessee post on coacht; therefore, information about volleyball teams out of the West, public or private, is almost non-existent. Hardly enough information is available to rank any team from Memphis, much less put one at #1 above the Brentwoods, Ravenwoods, and Franklins.

Ease up on the publics in Memphis- not everyone on their teams can afford to shell out the money to play club ball in the off-season, which is where most of the private school players truly develop their talent.

Personally, I would rather be the "Cinderella," fly under the radar, and realize that when it's all said and done, the trophies will speak for themselves.

Thanks for spelling Greenbrier correctly. It makes it so much easier to find posts on the "search" option when our community name is spelled right. I know it's confusing for some that want to assume it's spelled with an "a", but nope it's all E's....I guess for an excellent team. /blush.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blush.gif" /> Although I'm not a volleyball parent, we are all proud of the recent success of our Lady Cats!

Check what I wrote. I said that Hutchison should not be number one in the state. And there is no place for the whole Private Schools have more money crap in this topic. We have played plenty of public schools this year that have more club kids than us this year and have beaten them. There are not a lot of people on here from West TN, but we have played every top tier team from the area this season so I think that we know what is out there. As for Cinderella, I don't think its possible to fly under the radar with 27 wins and one of the top players and coaches in the state.

I know the player but help me out, and I do not mean any disrespect but who's the coach?

Funny how a top tier team hasnt made their way to Middle TN to get any of those 27 wins. I havnt heard anything about Hutchison until mentioned in this post. We will see in about 2 weeks if those 27 wins mean anything.

Best teams in your state are all from the same area. Dont care how your rank them, but the AAA champ will be Brentwood, Independence, Centennial, Independence, Ravenwood, or Franklin. All these teams are probably top 10 teams in terms of talent. I think the AAA championship will be the top two teams that come out of this district. Could be any one of these.

I'll say this about DB and TN High, they both beat Lafayette(KY) in three close games. This tells me they simply are not strong enough to make a run at a AAA state title and certainly are not top 10 teams. Lafayette simply is not that strong this year and played those matches without their best MB that was lost to a knee injury. In fact Lafayette is currently ranked 4th in their own district out of 4 teams so the fact they made the championship match in that Science Hill tournament tells me DB, Sience Hill and TN High are not legit top 10 teams. Just an opinion though.

My guess is Greenbrier, AC and Knox Cath are the best teams in AA/A but other than perhaps Greenbrier, i'd say no A/AA team are top 10 teams. State champ will come from one of those three teams though in my opinion. My pick would be Greenbrier over AC for the title.

No worries Vballdaddy, you are a classy poster, I know you mean no harm. The Coach is Jitka Okolicany.

Harp,... Like I said..again.... I nor we are claiming to be number one. I was just saying that people are not going to call you cinderella when you have won that many games. We are very well aware that Father Ryan, GPS, HH, etc are very good teams from the mid-state (I know they are all privates, but that is who is in our division), but based on results of common opponents I think that we could very well compete and have a chance to be in the mix with all of those teams. You are right, we did not come to the mid-state this year. We went out of state for one tournament and we had scheduled to play in one of the tournaments around Nashville, but we had a school conflict that would not allow us to come.

All I originally set out to do was to put Hutchison in the top 20 poll. I only get defensive of our kids when people want to try to discredit what they have done by either false accusations or by telling only half the story. There is too much finger pointing on this side of the state, and I could not expect anyone outside of this area to understand that.

I believe they belong in the top ten based on who they have already beaten. I put them #1 as a little tongue in cheek.

Doesn't your coach coach a team for Memphis Juniors? I may be mistaken seems like I've seen him at club events.

Good luck the rest of the year hope we see you in the boro.
