I didn't get to go to that game but from all reports it was an exact replay of the first game last year between THS and East. All I'm going to say is...HOW are you going to let the SAME player put 30+ on you TWO years straight?! I've heard many on here talk about how "well coached" the Vikings are but has the Coach been well coached? If a player that has the reputation of being a "shooter"hits three or four STRAIGHT three pointers in a row (a couple from NBA range) would you:

A.Call timeout and put your top or maybe even (in the case of East) top two defenders on him and tell your team that from hear on out, Snapp is not allowed to touch the ball!

B.Continue to stay in zone defense and pray that he stops making the three ball (which is what I understand to be the case with coach Whitcher).

Does the term 'shot them out of the zone" ring a bell?

25 points in the first half, most from behind the arch...come on...Snapp is good no doubt, but not that good!!! I can't think of any one player in the Big 9 conference that should be putting up those kinds of numbers. It would also help if you know who your best defender on your team is. Here is a hint...Mason Canty. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" /> I'm sorry but I had to get that off my chest because we are going to run into several others this year that are going to give us trouble (Cradic being one) unless we are willing to make the necessary adjustments and compensate for a virtual one man show. There is no shame in making a team beat your with their other players, and you're not saving face by having one player score 38 points on your team. That can't be blamed on the players. Some (not me) but some may believe that the players didn't follow the directive that the coach gave one time, but when it happens two years in a row you have to start wondering about the directive.

Well I guess we all know who your the #1 fan of. So your saying you want Canty out past the 3 point line guarding Snapp? Isnt canty a post player? He would get handled if he tried that. If anything Play a box and 1 with Young on Snapp because that is more than likely your best defender.

Young is the point guard and although he may be the Vikings best fundamental defensive player he carries a big load for the Vikings. If you can get away with not having him carry the load of guarding Snapp the team is much better off down the stretch. Canty is a post player because of his size as compared to the others on the team, and he doesn't have allot of confidence in his jump shot. Simple put, you play where you??™re most useful. But I know first hand that unless a player is super quick Mason will lock him down with his athleticism and size (wingspan being his best defensive weapon). Another option would be to just keep fresh legs guarding Snapp and simply don't let him touch the ball using players off the bench that can give fouls.

Huuuummmm…first post…curious. Who you with Bballfan14?

D-B 76

Sullivan Central 24

Central scores 4 points in the 2nd half...D-B has only seen one worthy high school team, thusfar, the Admirals of Farragut.

Whats the deal Skunk. Are the Indians really that good this year or are the Cougars just that bad? Four points in the entire second half has to be some kind of record??¦for both teams.

I guess we wont have to listen to all that Central crap on the boards this year??¦will we Hightop and Brock20, (aka - bballfan14). /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" /> /biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

Cap

I think the truth lies somewhere in between. Yes DB has destroyed the "compeition" of late (Volunteer, Crockett, Cherokee, Central) but the real competition they saw, Farragut, thumped them pretty good. I thought that was a "good" loss until I saw where Maryville beat them AND Bearden. Against Crockett, DB was VERY sloppy in the 2nd half and still outscored them 30-16 in the half. I think we'll see what the conference is made of this week coming up when DB goes on the road against THS and East.

FYI: I saw Tony Vaughn at the DB/Crockett game on Friday scouting for last night I'm assuming. Not sure if he was just there to see the 90 year celebration but I'm thinking he could have gotten the scouting reports off Tricitiessports.com and still got 4 points out of his team. That would have saved on a trip with gas prices being what they are these days. That's some of that outstanding Big9 "coaching" Waco always talks about. /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />

Cap,

I'd say, as maroonandgrey did, it is a combination...D-B has a very solid, deep team...still some questions, but what they have seen thusfar locally has not been very good...could have been a bad game by the other schools?...the Indians are playing very well together on both ends of the floor...could be a very good year for the Indians, but there are some really special teams in the Knoxville area...but that worry comes later in the year hopefully...

And you've got a poster trying to pick your favorite Viking, huh?...that's pretty funny...but, I see and appreciate your point that a zone based team will have to adjust to stop a shooter like Snapp...makes sense to me...even the best zones - as Coach Van Huss was a huge advocate of the match-up zone - may have to do special things for "shooters" to make their shot more difficult to get off...especially shooters who are makers (another Van Huss-ism).

Good luck to your Vikings...and Merry Christmas.

    • This late in the year, you’d have to think they’d go with an Asst. on staff, right? I’m pretty new to the area so still learning how folks do things around here…if Woods stays there to teach, it could be hard on a new guy/staff coming in…
    • Well, your Big Western Hunt better turn up some Zebras to come graze on the Stones to make the jungle gametime ready again and make sure the plumber bros. still will come service the facilities at the Mecca. I hope your weekend is Fowl. Tell Rip hello from the Five Oh. Maybe the Gravedigger will catch a ride with Alphaniner on a flyover soon to BNA.
    • It’s not hearsay, just patently false. As one of those young coaches he apparently “ran off”, coach never once ridiculed or degraded anyone. Sure he challenged kids and coached them very hard,  but we have different definitions of you call that degrading. Coach Hammontree changed my life when he gave me the chance to work for him. I learned more about being a man and caring for the people around me in 4 years working for him than I did in 20 years of my life. No one sacrificed more than he did. I left Heritage because I felt there would never be the support necessary to help the program succeed. I’m tired of hearing people drag others down especially those they truly don’t know. Coach has moved on and a new coach is there. Just let the man live and root for the team.
    • Waiting on the Great One.   White Horse and Rip have a big weekend in the woods, and the Sheriff is working the overtime here.      Turkey season awaits…..Big Gobblers everywhere.
    • He won first at maryville so he did something right
