I live in west Tenn. and didn"t make the game either. I spoke to people who went, they believe that they had somewhat of a let down after that emotional game against Fayette-Ware. The defense was solid as usual but the offense was sluggish to start the game. East played hard because that game was their state playoff game.

I would like to welcome all Northside fans to Orangemound. I am a Melrose grad and my wife is a Northside grad. We live and work in Jackson but we own property across the street from Melrose stadium. We will sponsor a joint tailgate for fans of both schools so that fans can socialize before and after the game. The tailgate will start around 5pm complete with smoking grills and live music. GO INDIANS/GO GOLDEN WILDCATS

Henry County has played at Melrose each of the last two years. The hospitality was great and the food was wonderful. One of the greatest venues in Tennessee for high school football.

THANKS GUYS,THESE COMMENTS ARE VERY REASSURING TO THE JNS FANS. WE HAVE BEEN HEARING HORROR STORIES ABOUT THE CARS PARKED OUTSIDE THE STADIUM IN YEARS PAST. WE LOOK FORWARD TO THE GAME BUT ARE JUST A LITTLE NERVOUS ABOUT THE SURROUNDINGS. SOUNDS LIKE THE NEGATIVE TALK MAY BE JUST RUMORS. LOOKING FORWARD TO A GOOD NIGHT AT THE MOUND.

Of all the out of town teams that have come and played in Orange Mound, including Hillsboro and Jackson Central Merry, my favorite would have to be the Henry County fans. We played them the last two years in Da Mound and they are truly great fans who really follow their school. We made friends with several fans who we allowed to park on our property and tailfgate with us before and after the games. This is what High school ball is all about. They promised us the same hospitality if we came to Henry County. Northside fans don't worry you will treated with the same kind of hospitality. Just try and get there early, lets say around 5pm or so. Ask anyone from JCM and they will tell you that there were not any problems at all. Just follow the grill smoke down Park avenue and it will lead you directly to Melrose stadium.

YOU'RE RIGHT THIS IS WHAT HIGH SCHOOL BALL IS ABOUT AND IT'S A SHAME THAT THESE WORRIES ARE EVEN INVOLVED AT ALL. THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR YOUR HOSPITALITY. WILL I BE ABLE TO RECOGNIZE YOUR PROPERTY IN ANY WAY WHEN I SEE IT ORANGEMOUND4EVER? HOPE YOUR NEIGHBORS THERE ARE AS CORDIAL AS YOU SEEM TO BE. LOOKING FORWARD TO THE FOOD AND FELLOWSHIP FRIDAY NIGHT.

Don't listen to the horror stories. The people treated us great. Just don't eat on the way there. You want to save plenty of room for their food.

THANK YOU FOR THE REST OF THE STORY. LOOKING FORWARD TO THE FOOD AND THE GAME. IT'S BEEN A LONG TIME SINCE NORTH SIDE HAS BEEN TO A PLAYOFF.

    • Lee would have been a good choice, also.  I'm sure Benny was involved with the decision.
    • Personally I was pulling for Lee Hammonds to get another shot. He’s earned it!
    • Tyler Williams was the logical choice to be named head football. He served as the Highlanders’ strength coach and offensive coordinator.
    • I went to practice yesterday and liked what I saw for the most part. Derek and crew have done a good job during the off-season. I was very impressed with the size of some of those boys on the offensive line. My only regret was one of the boys I was really pulling for to have a good year was dismissed from the team. I have to applaud the coaches for setting examples for the others, no one is bigger than the team. One other thing, I was hoping with that big rain we got this week some of that  yellow paint would dissolve but it didn't.
    • Couple of thoughts: 1.  I just don't understand all the intricacies in TSSAA transfer rules anymore.    William Blount had a kid that played the final part of the basketball season with them this year,  that played at Hardin Valley last year, and played football for Bearden this year.  I say that to say, I know the coaches and the AD and the Principal at WB and I will never believe they would do something they knew was wrong.  They are men of character.  I BELIEVE the same thing about the coaches and administration at Maryville.  Call me gullible, but these are men and women of integrity in my experiences with them. 2.  Much like the transfer of the Clemmer kid a couple of years ago, with Smith, the football team is getting a huge boost, but the impact on the basketball team will be just as great or maybe even greater.  With Smith playing post, it frees the Sigmund kid who will be coming back from injury, to play more with his face to the basket.  The Rebels basketball squad in my mind, will be "the program" in East Tennessee next year.
