Coach Fulmer and UT Football

In listening to Kevin Scarbinsky this morning on the radio, he said the problem with the staff at Alabama is what typically happens under Saban: after one year, you figure out whether or not you can work under him or not. He traditionally doesn't bring his staff with him (or they don't go with him) as he changes jobs. This is why Middleton, Applewhite, and apparently Steele have (are) jumped ship. The demands of working for Saban are not what they want to do- so they move on. Scarbinsky stated that he is particularly brutal on his assistants.

In Applewhite's case, the offensive co-ordinator was a misnomer- Saban, Joe Pendry, and Applewhite put together the offense, and it was constantly in flux as to who was in charge- particularly as it related to game planning.

Applewhite also was a bit in over his head in the SEC calling plays, in his opinion.

He stated Joe Pendry is the obvious choice, with bringing someone else in to be a position coach. He said it would be very difficult to attract any name coach to this "three-headed monster" situation; particularly with Saban's reputation.

Scab is an Barn hack so take what he says with a grain of salt but he did make some good points. What he said about Coach Saban's work demands are pretty much true because he demands hard work and excellence from everybody involved in the process. Even some secretaries in the athletic dept have transfered /laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> . Terming it as brutal is a bit over the top...he works everyone hard but he treats them, and everyone in the process, well (and makes sure they are paid well) as long as they are with the program. The players (the ones that buy in and that don't transfer anyway) love him.

BTW...from everything I am hearing the rumor about Steele leaving is just that....a rumor. He will probably leave to be a head coach at some point but he has no interest in a lateral move. It was simply a rumor started by Barn supporters to try to hurt what is an outstanding recruiting class. Coach Applewhite was over his head and the decision for him to leave was more Coach Saban's decision than Applewhites. Coach Applewhite was also QB coach and JPW's erratic performance didn't instill faith in his abilities there either. Coach Saban wants an experienced OC that can run the spread. What I am hearing now is that Hatcher is the top target (the job is his if he and Coach Saban can come to terms) then Brohm and then possibly Harsin. Hatcher was FSU's next choice if Fisher had turned them down. From what I hear any of these guys would come in as QB coach/OC and Coach Pendry will stay the line coach/asst head coach. A new name that has surfaced is Michigan quarterbacks coach Scot Loeffler. If he comes in it might mean that Coach Pendry will be the OC. New names are surfacing every day...a lot of "name" coaches are throwing their names in the ring...a few of the names would surprise a lot of folks. In any case the OC will be running the offense that Coach Saban wants...think spread with a power running game and a mobile, dual threat QB much like his LSU offense.

Okay UT insiders in K-town. . . Michael was hired, apparently, over Coach George at Mur-vull.

Any back story, inside story, etc.? It would have been intriguing on a number of levels to hire a local legend. However, Michael does appear to have the credentials.

thoughts?

Doesn't seem to be any conspiracy other than they liked his qualifications. Don't know if there is anything else or not attached to it.

I think you hit on the button credentials. Not that Coach Q doesn't have them. He is outstanding in his own right. I think the way the pros are now shredding defenses with the passing game, Fulmer wanted some of that expertise in Knoxville. Also I believe recruiting may had played a bit into the selection. More experience in that area, despite his youth and the ability or willingness to stay on the road.

    • Quick update on Jacob -  Jacob celebrated his 16th birthday at Vanderbilt on Tuesday and has been in decent spirits.  His sense of humor has begun to show as he was visited by many friends.  He is swallowing a lot better now and has eaten some of his favorites (Chik-Fil-A and Five Guys).   He is getting prepared to head to Atlanta to the Shepherd Center first thing tomorrow morning.  His family has been waiting on insurance approval. In case you dont know the Shepherd Center it a world class facility and supposedly one of the best in the country for spinal injury rehab.  Praying for perfect results there. Considering the circumstances, Jacob is in decent spirits.  He has some reflexive movement in his legs which I think is probably a very positive sign.  Don't read too much into that just yet as there is no telling what the real prognosis is... just hopeful that is good thing.  I am really just happy that it seems like he has a punchers chance of getting something back.  He is a strong young man and very determined so I think he will fight as hard as he can in physical therapy while down in Atlanta. More than one of you has asked me about an address to send donations.  I know GoFundMe isn't for everyone.  If you want to go that route, you can make a check to "Blackman Wrestling Club" and we will pass anything received directly to the Kinderdines.   Jacob Kinderdine c/o Blackman Wrestling 4836 Trevino Court Murfreesboro, TN  37128 Also, want to thank everyone who has donated so far.  Jacobs dad will take a month off work and stay in Atlanta with him.  They need to learn how to take care of him and do home therapy work..... and surely Jacob will be glad his dad can be there.  All that could not happen without you all.  Depending on what happens, they will probably end up doing some home remodeling in order to accommodate Jacob at their home.  Thanks again. Here's a pic I lifted from Facebook of Jacob on Oxy talking to his Uncle.  LOL
