Coach Fulmer and UT Football

Yes, yes, I know. I've been on Fulmer's case for sometime now because the program HAS slipped but you gotta give the guy credit. He turned what seemed like a disasterous season into a reclaimation project of all time. Considering that he wound up 10 and 4, with the four losses at a point total of a gazillion, Cutcliffe and Phil worked their magic and squeaked out a respectable season.

I was wrong about their fate but am proud to be wrong. Tennessee made us proud once again especially in a year that the top teams were falling off the chart every week. Had UT won their SEC championship game, they were as eligible as anyone to contend for the national championship. Debatable, of course. Anyways, to ALL those that jumped me for stating my negative opinion, I say that's my right, but it is also your right to defend and I'm man enough to admit it.

So bask in the glory of a 10-4 season and be thankful. There's always next year and by the looks of things, it should be shakier at UT than ever. OUT...... /cool.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="B)" border="0" alt="cool.gif" />

Well, looks as if Fulmer is making the right moves with the coaching hires. I really, really, really like the Clawson hire as OC, and I think Drayton may make the Trooper departure seem less important.

If somehow he can get Loeffler in here as a QB coach, I'll give him a standing ovation.

Give him credit, he's making good moves. I hope he continues to amaze us. I believe he has gotten the message. Let's hope he can finish what he's starting. /cool.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="B)" border="0" alt="cool.gif" />

The more I read about Coach Clawson, the more I like him. When I heard that his goal every year is to have a 3,000 yard passer, a 1,000 yard rusher, and a 1,000 receiver, I knew then we made a good hire. He's a pro-stlyle, multiple offensive set kind of guy, which will mix well with the Tennessee philosophy.

And for those of us clamoring for some younger guys on the staff, assuming the receivers coach comes with Clawsom, his last three hires will be 40, 36, and 32 years old.

And he's ruffled Urban's feathers in the process which makes it all the better. Now just replace Slade and I would be tinkled pink.

What's Urban ruffled about?

Sounds like Tennessee isn't the only school that might be looking for a new OC. Major headed home to Texas???

Yep. The poor offensive performance the last half of the season showed the need for an experenced OC. It wasn't totally Coach Applewhite's decision to leave. The writing was on the wall. Bama will be running more spread next year. Coach Saban is recruiting the athletes to run it.

My guess of the top 5 candidates for OC job (Coach Saban hasn't asked my opinion so he may have someone else in mind /tongue.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" /> )

Georgia Southern head coach Chris Hatcher

Louisville assistant head coach/offensive coordinator Jeff Brohm

Green Bay Packers' quarterback coach Tom Clements

Boise State offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Bryan Harsin

Southern California assistant head coach/quarterbacks coach Steve Sarkisian

Dark horse candidate - LSU offensive coordinator Gary Crowton

    • Tax payer dollars are paid for certified teachers to "teach" and then coach. The primary job is to teach.  There are some district that ay awesome supplements and others that don't. Dyersburg and Dyer County are pretty close if I remember correctly. I would imagine that Football and basketball are above $10,000 now.  I've heard that Milan is $20,000 for boys basketball. I would imagine that football is more than that in Milan.  Collierville has camps that coaches get paid extra for. 3 camps a year, 100 kids a camp, $30,000 right there.  There are places like Memphis-Shelby County schools where the supplements are garbage even for the head coaches. I made less than $3,000 as the head assistant at Germantown in 2015 when we were 26-4 and one of the best teams in the Southeast. As a head middle school coach next year I will make between $4-5,000 at a municipal in Shelby County.  Coaches should be compensated for the jobs that are required but lets keep in mind that they are educators first.  It's pretty frustrating to other teachers that work their tale off teaching 6-7 classes a day to watch someone roam campus, not teach (or have very minimal responsibilities), and get paid the same (more with supplements) as a person who has the some years of experience or sometimes less.
    • This will get coaches leaving the profession very quickly if this kid wins this case. This is absurd...
    • yeah money aint right there anymore
    • I suppose you are correct but from my understanding it was going to be a situation of the HC saying yay or nay to every play
