can't believe no one has mentioned Will Locante from Briarcrest. He pitched two no hitters this season and has an unbeaten record. He also is signed with UT-Knoxville. He doesn't throw 96,but he has great command, great curve and not many players can hit him.

The night I saw him I wasn't overly impressed. He was good but not what I had built up in my mind based on what I had heard. Maybe he wasn't having his best outing so I won't make my judgment off that one time seeing him. I'll have to get out and see him again. Any idea when he is pitching again?

Laconte has two losses now, but agreed he is a very good pitcher.

Mo Mo Stewart from Cascade certainly should be put in this conversation. Not sure exactly what he has been clocked at but he can bring it. He went head to head with Will Clinard in the regionals last year and was the better pitcher that day. He had a great season last year went undefeated in the district and helped lead Cascade to their first state tournament appearance. Expect big things again from him this year as I would assume he will be playing for a big D1 school next year. If you have not had the opprotunity to see Mo Mo pitch I would highly suggest it. I think Clinard is a great pitcher but IMHO Mo Mo is better.

Neither MoMo nor Clinard are in the same class as Gray. And, velocity isn't everything. Gray adds location and movement to go with his mid-90s fastball. That's why he's one of the top 10 players in the country when healthy. The kid from Marshall County doesn't have near the command and is inconsistent, although he does have upside that is nearly rivaled by Clinard. MoMo will be a utility infielder in college.

Here's a sleeper that no one has mentioned, The Harveston kid from Pigeon Forge. I have only seen him throw a few games, But he's got great stuff. Throws consistanty mid to upper 80's with good movement on his fastball, a hard nasty slider and a major league curveball. Threw against Farragut friday and recorded 7 K's against a highly regarded nationally ranked team. This kid will be a good pick up for someone at the next level.

I never stated that Mo Mo or Clinard were on the same level as Sonny Gray. I know Sonny is the best in the state but the title of the thread asked who are the best pitchers in the state and in my opinion he is one of the best. I am not saying his the 10th, 20th, 50th, I have not seen everyone pitch but I think he is one of the best especially in single A. He will make a great ball player for someone wherever he lands. I wish he was not having the problems with his elbow that he is having because I am sure that it would help Cascade out much more to have his arm in the rotation.

Alan Walden from red bank is a flamethrower (88-93).But what sets him apart is his composure and attitude on the mound. He is a junior this year and will only continue to develope. This kid is the real deal and will only continue to get better so if u get a chance go check him out and u will leave the park with the same thoughts as me.

    • When Danny was a senior he was the quarterback on the 82 team and also the placeholder on extra points. At the end of the game Heritage scored a touchdown with very little time left and went ahead 9-0. On the following extra point Danny rose up and threw a perfect pass to one of his receivers which made it 11-0 and Heritage's first win against Maryville since the series started in 77. Maryville fans were highly ticked off because they felt like it was rubbing salt in the wound. The following year when both teams met again at Maryville  the Rebels ran away with the game and after the first couple of touchdowns they went for two points after each score for a pay back and the score was 45-0 at halftime. The following Monday Bob Gilbert the sports eiditor for the local paper bashed Maryville in an article called the Humilation of Teenagers and tore into Maryville even though he was a graduate of the school. Those were the good ole days when Heritage had decent teams and the rivalry between them and Maryville was a fun event to see.
    • I get all that.  And I agree too.  However, if the coach is only there to coach that would give them more time to do those things. The school system and booster clubs combine and pay them.
    • 3 sides to every story….Someone getting kicked off for saying the F word then it seems maybe your star player? Probably was the last straw.
