Socialism has taken over high school sports boys and girls!

Oh well, the good teams will adapt and win regardless, the criers will find something new to cry about when they continue to lose.

Define 'adapt'. What? Increase the number of out of zone kids your school will take? I don't see how this will affect Murvul one way or the other. They'll be in the upper division. It will affect Alcoa and the non-tuition privates and magnet schools. They'll be playing against other teams that have the same competitive advantages. The rural publics will play other rural publics that play in closed boundaries. Apples to apples if you will.

Putting a multiplier on the Division I privates ONLY wasn't fair. I think this proposal addresses the problem more directly and there's 20,000 games worth of data to back it up.

I like the wildcard idea too. Particularly where there is so much difference in the number of teams in a district/region.

I have lived in Maryville less than 12 months. I held the same opinion of multipliers, splits, and other ideas such as this long before I moved here.

But you are correct, it will not affect the Rebels one way or the other. However, I strongly suggest you check the number of out of zone players on the football team. That is an excuse that has been disproven many times as a reason for the Rebels success.

Nor do I think it will affect Alcoa that much. They will continue to win because it is their mindset.

Adapt - change to do what it takes to win with what a team is given, not cry and change the rules to make them fit my current circumstances better. Successful people, teams, and organizations adapt, not cry foul.

People who are turning cartwheels about this now WILL find some new inequality by the time King Ronnie and his Court of Jesters go through this exercise again in 4 years.

If Maryville had been taking on Brentwood Academy or MBA in the past few years, instead of playing 4A publics with a 5A enrollment, you might have a different view.

Probably not, sorry, complaining about how unfair life is doesn't fit in my mentality. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />

Having a different perspective doesn't necessarily mean complaining, and I don't know if wanting classifications to be done fairly equals complaining, either. I haven't seen the first post from rural 1A and 2A level teams wanting South Pittsburg and Smith County out.

I equate the phrase of "it's not fair" with complaining. Sorry.

75% or greater of the time this debate is discusses, those words or some form of the idea is used.

I agree with you to a certain extent. As we all know lifes not fair and we should'nt try to teach our kids that it is or even that it should be, but heres my point. If TSSAA is trying to make it fair right now it's NOT!

Small rural schools don't have a chance against most privates and larger more urban schools with FAR more resources.

It sounds to me like you think it would be "fair" for a school like Oakdale (maybe the smallest 1a school in the state with a football program) to have to compete against Maryville just because they're all highschool kids playing the same sport.

This is all I am saying.....

Since I was a kid in tee-ball I have always heard parents complain about how unfair their team has it because of some reason. There is ALWAYS some excuse for a team losing and another team winning.

All I am saying is that the same people crying now will find something else that isn't fair in 4 years. The decision itself doesn't bother me. It's actually going to create some great football. It's the entire thought process behind the split, the multiplier, total split, etc. that bothers me.

I think it too many cases, the thought process behind this is used as an excuse for losing instead of being a legitimate unfairness issue because it's usually those teams who would win more if "X' school was out of their way that are spearheading the campaing. If I actually thought the reasons all this crap began for were for the right reasons, I would probably be behind it more. But I don't think it is therefore I think it is a joke.

I like the proposal...even though my team will be playing against much larger schools. If it happens...it will save us the trouble of moving up to 3a. I like the idea of playing in the same football region with the schools that are in our basketball region. I think it is a fair plan.

As for Sol...reclassification is an ongoing process. Any plan we have will be reconsidered every 4 years. Unless you are for one class for all...that is a given. The only ones that want one class are the larger (or DII) school supporters. Will everyone be satisfied? Absolutely not. The goal is to group schools in classes as evenly as possible. Like I said...it is an ongoing process.

I'll just look ahead to 2012.......

So what are you going to do when some powerhouse outside of the metropolitan areas wins 3 of the next 4 titles in A or AA in the next cycle?

Trousdale Co.?

Hampton?

Milan?

Union City?

These are just examples.

Once again, it's not the system, it's just reasoning behind it. The more I think about it, the more I like it because it's going to create some good football between smaller schools.

I at least hope King Ronnie and his Court Jesters do factor in a way for new smaller metropolitan schools - public or private - to play with people of their own level and not group them with the big old mean metropolitan schools. I mean, it would only be fair that a new school wouldn't be on the same playing field with established programs, right? I mean, after all, we're only all concered about the welfare of the kids here.
