I have lost all respect for Sweathog PearlNecklace after his comments about CDR. Pearl said something to the effect "I can't believe he'd leave Memphis for the NBA, because he'd be taking a pay cut." Said this at Freed Hardeman while makig a speech and said the same thing in Chattanooga.

The difference is it's not a fan making classless comments about Memphis, it's a coach. The comments are about a player not a fellow coach.

Coach Pearl made a very poor judgment call in telling a "joke" about University of Memphis student athlete, Chris Douglas-Roberts. In the story he suggested that all the Memphis players would be returning including Chris who could not afford a pay cut to go to the pros. He got a lackluster response from the crowd, many of whom obviously considered his comments unworthy of his position. While "jokes" of this type are often circulated on sports message boards and in the hallways at work, it is highly unprofessional and classless for the head coach of a major university to tell the "joke" in front of camera and radio to be recorded and circulate.

Tennessee sophomore forward Duke Crews and sophomore guard Ramar Smith are being dismissed from the team.

Multiple failed drug tests led to the pair's dismissal. The reason they were kicked off the team was to free up two more scholarships for the 2009 recruiting class. UT only has 1 senior on the 2008/2009 team on scholarship. Crews and Smith aren't even close to the talent on UT's radar for the 2009 recruiting class. All Pearl wants these kids for is to fill seats. They are nothing more than dumb jocks to him, all Pearl cares about is himself and winning games. Just like not encouraging Tyler Smith to go to the NBA. Smiths stock will not be as high next year with the addition of Hopson and Pearl knows this. How many wins he gets this year is more important than Tyler Smith becomming a late first rounder and making a few million dollars. Dismiss Ramar Smith and go after another kid that got kicked of off Oklahoma...go figure. Here are a couple of more Pearl has kicked off since he arrived.. Passley 1.8 ppg and Hendrix 2.6 ppg. Wingate got kicked off because of mandatory ncaa rules. Remember the kid from Hickman County ( Dotson) that had a life long dream to play for UT..the one Buzz signed. Pearl signs and does everything in his power to convince Dotson to back out of his LOI but does just the opposite with Tyler Smith. Sweathog Pearlnecklace told Dotson he wasn't an SEC talent and pushed him out the door and on the other hand he thought Tyler Smith was so good he wouldn't release him of his LOI, Smith had to go to a 5th year prep school before he could ever play one game at the D1 level because of Sweathog Pearlnecklace.

 

Ever hear the story about Sweathog Pearl Necklace instructing one of his players (while at UM Wisconsin) to actually guard the ref becasue he thought he wasn't getting a fair shake.

Knoxville, TN- The University of Tennessee has extended a scholarship offer to popular junior-college point guard Bobby Maze.

Maze was a starting point guard for Oklahoma as a freshman, but was dismissed from the team in April of last year. He then transferred to Hutchinson Community College where he was an All-American this past season after averaging close to 21 points, seven assists and five rebounds per game. The 6??™3 playmaker committed to Maryland in December, but Terps coach Gary Williams recently withdrew his scholarship offer.

Maze is also being recruited by Kentucky, Cincinnati, and St. John??™s.

We received word from Knoxville this morning that sophomore guard Ramar Smith has been dismissed from the Tennessee basketball team for violating team rules. This report has not been made public and is unconfirmed at this point. Is this the reason why Tennessee has rejoined the race for Bobby Maze??™s services? We will keep you informed as we attempt to confirm this report.

The Pearl/Thomas incident

During the 1988-1989 basketball season, Pearl, then an assistant coach at the University of Iowa, was at the center of a recruiting scandal involving the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Both Illinois and Iowa were recruiting Deon Thomas, a top high school player from Chicago. Pearl lost this recruiting battle when Thomas committed to Illinois. Thereafter, Pearl called the high school student and recorded a phone conversation with Thomas. During the conversation, Pearl asked Thomas if he had been offered an SUV and cash by Illinois assistant coach Jimmy Collins, and Thomas indicated he had. Pearl then turned over tapes (alleged by Illinois to have been edited) to the NCAA, accompanied by a memo describing the events.[2] However, during the subsequent NCAA investigation, Thomas denied the allegations and said the story was false (verified through a lie detector test). The NCAA did not find Illinois guilty of any wrongdoing relating to Thomas' recruitment, finding that the proof provided was not "credible, persuasive and of a kind on which reasonably prudent persons rely in the conduct of serious affairs."[3] However, the investigation uncovered other violations, and Illinois was punished due to a finding of "lack of institutional control" based in part on previous infractions involving Illinois' football program. The event led to a "blackballing" by many coaches in D-I, and even led ESPN commentator Dick Vitale to call Pearl's actions "career suicide" during a telecast.

When Pearl and Collins were both head coaches for four years in the Horizon League, the two men never engaged in the traditional postgame handshake, reportedly due to lingering feelings over the incident. When Thomas was asked about forgiving Bruce Pearl in a 2005 interview, he was quoted as saying "It's hard to forgive a snake". Thomas went on to play basketball at the University of Illinois, becoming its all time leading scorer.

It should be noted that the state of Iowa is a "one party consent" state, wherein it is legal for an individual to record a telephone conversation to which that individual is a party. See, Iowa Code Section 727.8 (2007).

 

 

This doesn't even begin to cover the story behind the bad blood with Georgia and LSU ( due to Pearl and not the players ) or the man filling for divorce two days after his 25th anniversary. Oh and I almost forgot about the partying with coeds and the story about the hot young blonde. Ever see those picturers?

 

I will no longer support UT basketball as long as Sweathog continues to be the coach. The CDR comments were it for me. I have pulled for UT for years but no more until Pearl Necklace finds another job which his track record says will happen. I will continue to support the football program ...I am a diehard UT VOL FOOTBALL FAN as well as the LADY VOLS. But I have had it with Pearl.

 

And to finish on a good note,I applaud Chris Lofton for overcoming cancer and playing his senior year and wish him the best. Lofton is a fine young man!!!!!!

Oh, there are plenty of comments I could reply to it with, but I keep remembering the source of the info and remember my new mantra is that morons/losers like him that only show up to brag or belittle then go hiding again aren't worth my time. The source of the Info is the NCAA as far as UT's academic shortfalls and penalties (this was released after my originals post) the source of the CDR comments werefrom people actually in attendance and media that were there, The source of the Duke Crewes and Ramar Smith story are from Sweathog himself and everybody in the country that watches ESPN or reads the paper or internet /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" /> the source of Sweathog instructeing a player to guard the ref came form guess who..SWEATHOG himself, The source of Sweathog taping a conversation with a recruit was Sweathof himself and the recruit passing the lie detector test saying Pearl was untruthful was every media outlet in the midwest. Those that think of themselves as better than everybody else have allways seemd to have double standards anyway. I was only asking because it doeas happen. And you re making yourself look like A idiot, a fool, and a complete you know what over your lucky rabbit comment. And the rabbit foot comment is not funny at all and you know why to. My only superstition has to do with my son and then only because he is superstitious about certain things. I put that whole thing to rest sometime ago but you just can't help yourself...can you? I tell you what , when my son gets back I will personally intorduce him to you and you can explain to him why his superstions are unfounded and a bunch of BS.When I say I will introduce him I am serious to, maybe we can all have lunch or something. If you don't want to explain it to him yourself why don't you just drop it . I am not going through this again with you or anybody else. It's strange how a litle smack talk over something as trivial as sports can turn to into something as stupid as what you said, all because you just can't seem to take it and choose to take the LOW ROAD.
