KANSAS CITY - The NAIA released its pre-season volleyball coaches poll on Tuesday, and defending TranSouth Conference champion Freed-Hardeman University found itself just outside the top 25.

The Lady Lions, who finished 30-5 in 2007, received 48 votes tying them with Cornerstone (Mich.) University. They were also the top vote-getter in the TranSouth after being picked as the pre-season favorite by coaches during the annual conference meeting in early August.

Under the leadership of head coach Todd Humphry, the Lady Lions have a combined record of 121-23 over the last four seasons and have been in the receiving votes category of the national poll on many occasions.

This year's pre-season poll is dominated by the Golden State Athletic Conference, which has six of the nation's top eight teams including the top-ranked team in Fresno Pacific (Calif.) University.

Freed-Hardeman's season begins on Sept. 2 when it hosts Lambuth (Tenn.) University at 7:00 PM.

See the complete poll here.

Realizing that Freed Hardeman University is undefeated this time of year and set a school record for the best start, they are now close to the top twenty five teams in the nation in NAIA and have a chance to better that as they travel To Faulkner for a Tournament in Montgomery, Alabama and Travels to Georgetown, kentucky for another tournament which will give them a chance to fall within the top twenty. This is a very good team and if they are in your area it will be a good chance to see athleticism on the VB court that you don't normally see. See the lions.

Yesterday, the bubble burst for the Freed Hardeman Lions when after the best season in the History of the School, they lost two hard fought matches and lost the chance in going to the NAIA National tournaments. Coach Todd Humphry's Lions won in the morning against Mid Continent University, and lost in the afternoon to Lyon University of Arkansas and last evening to Trevecca of Nashville. Both matches were upsets of a sort as Freed had gome undefeated during regular season and beaten both Schools twice. It ends their season.

It ends the careers of Brooke Childers, Crtissandra Perez who was named MVB of the Regular Season TranSouth Conference and Martha Ray. Freed Hardeman University is located in Henderson, Tennessee.

The Tournament concludes today at Union University in Jackson.

    • Yeah, I don’t see that AC situation ending well. Let’s be real, AC is a super redneck school, always has been. Inner city boys and rednecks just don’t generally mix well, if you get my drift. Before it’s all said and done, there will be drama. As I’ve said before, people will sell their souls to win football games. It’s crazy.
    • Booger thinkin that it probably not unreal istical to be thinkin the TFP could be ones source..... Booger just sayin
    • Hard to believe that it’s two kids from The McCallie School, and one each from Dobyns Bennett and The Baylor School.  I really thought a couple of other kids would have made the podium this year.
    • I have said it many times before, Coach Phillips stated awhile back; "We coach players that want to be ROADRUNNERS!"  Even if they takes their lumps and bruises and its been bruises the last couple of years, they're still not going to recruit players.  If they stay, LETS GO!  If they leave, SEE YA LATER!  IT's HARD BEING A ROADRUNNER!     Fulton was tough back in the days when they won 3 titles, no argument there.   AC-  I think they beat Alcoa this year , Alcoa isn't all that and they will take their bumps and bruises this year. They won't cake walk 4A and I agree those parents will turn on the coach because they're playing outside kids
