(Hypothetical) TSSAA boycott

i agree with you on those 2 issues especially the 50%rule i see no advantage to that rule... on the sonny rule it is not going to hurt him one way or the other it was just tough luck school started when it did can they make a change there?...sure but if they did what effect would it have on some of the other issues that that rule is suppose to stop...i really dont know...the 50%rule is just bad it hurts kids that WANT to work...you do reallize though that they charge 2 year olds at every state championship event and this is not a new rule ive paid it for football and ive charged it the past 3 years in baseball i do not agree with it but it is not a new rule i think 6 year olds are fair at least they are in school

 

I know they have charged at all events but it still needs to be addressed. I paid for my 5 year old last year and was fortunate enough to get a pass for her this year. So I am not complaining about my situation, it just is not right some of these things I mentioned earlier. I know Sonny's deal probably didn't efect him in the slightest but it could have been taken care of were it didn't effect others in the future from being selected for such a big honor. It would only have made our whole state look better by him playing in that.

A fun way to get back at them, if they allow it, is to bring outside food and drinks to the game.

 

 

They don't allow it. I paid $3.50 for a coke at the track stadium and took it outside with me to the tent area when I went to check on my son who had just finished a race. When I tried to come back in the stadium, I was forced to throw my drink in the trash can and was told that I would just have to buy another one. Ronnie Carter and the TSSAA organization has become a monster with a life of its own and is totally out of control. Those officials that the schools send to the meetings do not have the ability or the desire to control the organization. I was told by my local state representative (I mean as in state government) that the TSSAA is a "cult" and that it would be easier for the state legislature to sell the dome off the state capital building than to exert any influence over the TSSAA. I guess this makes Ronnie Carter one of the greatest cult leaders of our time. The TSSAA needs oversight from the state government, but our state board of education has relinquished the responsibility and potential liability and given the TSSAA free reign to run out of control saying that it is a "private organization". What this "private organization" needs is competition. If a few of the larger school districts got together and started their own organization the others would follow. But it won't happen. It''s unbelieveable to me that even after the TSSAA basically kicked the private schools out of the organization (by putting them in division II) they still pay dues and support the organization.

i respectfully disagree with you the last thing we need is for the government to get more involved having said that i am a less government type person (everyone under same health care is getting close to a socialistic government isnt it but thats another topic)

It was not TSSAA making you buy another coke in that situation...that was MTSU making oyu buy another coke unless the TSSAA did those concession stands...each site has their own little quirks at RIVERDALE we did use common sense i think we as far as your drink and stuff like that but as far as charging we had no choice...if we charge one and not the other then we would look bad so this was a rule that we had to enforce to maintain consictency and like i said before if they are in school i think its ok to charge

You have to have some rules and guidelines. How many would take their Coke cups to the car and pour themselves a mixed drink if you let everyone walk in and out with cups? I don't mind charging students and you'll have to take my word for it on the age. Many schools have let my 1st grader in this year because they know they're going to get it back twofold in concessions. That's just common sense.

 

I agree with no governmental involvement. They have a hard enough time doing the job they're supposed to be doing rather than worry about high school sports. Where's our priorities? The TSSAA frustrates me to no end some times, but I doubt it would be any different under anybody else's control and no control would lead to an situation where the bigger schools or the ones with the most money would do whatever they pleased at the expense of the smaller ones.

 

My biggest baseball complaint is they don't do enough to protect pitcher's arms and for the life of them they can't figure out how the post season should work. Some of this isn't rocket science. The other frustrating part is that the current setup somehow discourages 3 sport athletes. I don't know if the coaches or parents started that, but there's enough mandatory stuff that every coach wants, that the kid is forced to make a choice. Sad.

The common sense approach used at Riverdale apparently worked. There were multiple posts praising the way they were treated at Riverdale.

I see several problems with the TSSAA and some of the things that have been posted on this board. The main issue is the lack of respect that they have displayed for the paying customers. Yes, the TSSAA is operating a business and those that purchase tickets, pay for parking and visit the concession stands are paying the salaries for the TSSAA employees. With that being said why should they know how to run a business when they are educators that have little if any training in how a business should function or how to treat customers? If these same TSSAA employees and the Board of Control were in business for themself they would probably be visiting the bankruptcy attorney after the doors were open for six months.

That doesn't get TSSAA, that gets the host school.....And they should get something, their parents are typically manning it.
