Here are the numbers on the TSSAA site for the Division II, AAA games so far this decade. Not very impressive except for 2003, especially considering MBA or BA played in several. They could play at Riverdale, Oakland, any Murfreesboro area stadium that's unused for the particular date needed and I'd say few would complain. Maybe Comcast was aware of these figures and figured if there wasn't interest in attending the games there would be little interest in people watching.

Granted, the idea that D2 football title games draw big crowds is an urban myth.

BTW, 2003 was MBA/BA at Vanderbilt and if you look the 14,500 figure as posted on tssaa.org might be the total for all 3 D2 title games since there is no attendance listed for A and AA. Most years the 1A (1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2004, 2005 and 2006) title game outdraws the D2 AAA title game.

The Baylor McCallie game regularly draws over 10,000 at Finley. That is most years unless Baylor attempts a home field advantage and holds the game at Baylor - to no avail. Of course, unless the Baylor School for Boys and Girls upgrades their major sport, this combination will never occur in a title game.

The fact remains that the 2001 D2 AAA title game in Nashville won by McCallie drew 3,400 which was 1,700 less than the 2001 D1 1A game and 1,900 less than the 2001 D1 2A title game.

I agree that D2 gets the short end of the straw but you can't argue that there is more interest in D2 title games than D1 title games.

That is true...and I also think interest state-wide is down considerably from the past. Maybe

the number of classes is the reason...but even then...the total attendance seems to be down.
