The 11-12 all star team from Summertown is looking for scrimmage games for Saturday June 21st and or Sunday June 22nd. We are willing to play 50'-0" pitching mound w/ 60'-0 bases.

Please help.!

Thanks

If you want to play the best contact John Mitchell and play his Shoetiques team. They will play 50'0" pitching and 70'0" bases with leadoffs. All of the non rec. teams across the country play @ 50/70 for 12U baseball.

I suppose it depends upon the organization, but in Little League you can't scrimmage outside of your league for insurance reasons. Not sure about Dixie Youth or Cal Ripken.

Still, I wouldn't scrimmage a travel team on longer bases and different playing rules if I were trying to get ready for an all star tournament. Do that after all stars is over to extend your season.

I want to thank every one for their help on trying to find us a game. We played last night in Greenhill, Ala. If I haven't said we play Dixie youth baseball. I was surprised to find that compared to other teams & organizations we are behind. I talked to a lot of people around and this Dixie Youth baseball is dying. It is being replaced with o-zone.

O-zone is dixie baseball equiventlent to Jr. high baseball. 60'-0" pitching mound and 90'-0" bases. I assume this is to use high school and jr high fields.

Thanks,

I think eventually the 11-12 year old divisions in most rec leagues will move their pitching distances, bases and fences back from the customary 46-60-200 dimensions that have historically been used. The kids are bigger, the bats are hotter and there's a safety issue. Graduated dimensions make more sense in that respect, but logistically you have to be set up for multiple dimensions or have more fields. We set up one in our city park for 60, 70 and 90 ft bases with portable pitching mounds and a skinned infield to accommodate every age group.

The other thing I would suggest in Summertown and Mt. Pleasant for that matter is to go back to Little League. That area of the state is strong in Little League and there would certainly be good competition. Columbia, Lawrenceburg and Lewisburg have all had strong programs for a long time. Dan Uggla played for the Columbia National LL and then Columbia Babe Ruth and never traveled outside of Maury County until post season.

USSAA is also a rec league you might want to look at the bases are not as far back as a big feild but it is at a good adjustment before they hit middle school ball in MURFREESBORO we have all 3 leagues if you play in the county you play dixie youth if you play across town its little league and if you play MBA its USSAA but we have been dixie youth then we went to dizzy dean and now USSAA i also think it is a cheaper legaue fee

    • He may have possibly said that to get the best out of him. Back when I was in school word got out I was going to transfer and Coach Story popped off and ask Coach Wilson in front of the team if Maryville was going to get a jock strap in return on this trade. That got back to me and I got fired up and stayed just to show them up. Now today Coach Story is one of my best friends.
    • Dylan's Dad, I'm glad you replied. I wanted to reply but wasnt willing to take the bait. There were 20 wrestlers on the team. I may be mistaken and correct me if I'm wrong but I believe 5 of the 20 attend McCallie right now and one will next year. At most, there are/were 6 kids on that team who attend McC. That leaves 14 other team members who have ZERO affiliation with McC (outside of maybe some friends) who represented our state to the best of their ability and wrestled their butts off that weekend. That weekend was a first for Tennessee and obviously a small step in the right direction for us as a state. Congratulations TEAM TN BLACK!
    • Danny Wilson is the only one that come's to mind but I don't know where he is at now.
    • I am pro coach all day long but there are some knucklehead hires for sure.
    • This is a great question. The retirement seemed a little premature. I do not know the coach personally, but I hope he has found what he is looking for. He is a fine Christian man with a lot of principle and morals about him. I wish him nothing but the best. There are some players in the box for the next coach. This is going to be interesting to see how it plays out.
