swamp
Please get out and vote today. The Harriman school vote and the CE and County Commission races are very important for the future of our schools!
Antwan
swampy...What's up in Roane County? By the way, is it Kingston or Roane County High. I have heard it both ways. Which is correct?
swamp
Antwan, the big issue is whether or not City of Harriman residents want to dissolve Harriman City schools and join the county system. If this is passed, then the county has to decide how to change funding, as well as a possible redistribution of students between the 5 schools (Kingston, Midway, Rockwood, Oliver Springs, Harriman). As far as the name, the charter and my diploma say Roane County High School. The sports teams have Kingston on the jerseys (some of the cheerleader unis have RCHS on them, though). The band is the Roane County High School Marching Band. Academic teams are Roane County High School. I tell people I'm from Kingston, because if I say Roane County, they'll say "Is that Harriman (Rockwood)"? Well, at least the ones that don't say "Whur's that?" We also get confused with Kingston Springs and Kingsport. Clear as mud, ain't it... [Edited by swamp on 8/1/02 1:29P]

OSHSman
Harriman will be a part of the county system starting in 2003-04.
swamp
This movement has been ongoing in Harriman for a while. The merge side says that HCS is too expensive for the City (pop. 5000 or so) to maintain, and should be turned over to County (pop. 52,000). This is the 3rd vote on the same issue that I can remember.
swamp
OS91 & I don't expect an end to Harriman...OS91 is convinced some of the OS students will be rezoned for Harriman now. I think that's a distinct possibility. A lot of debate over the next year, that's for sure.
