Cocke County Football - Newport, TN

I was all about having a Cocke County Coaching Clinic featuring 2 college coaches speaking on football techniques, myself and another college strength coach on player development, and even a famous guest speaker. This was a grat idea and I can give you one guess on "who" said "that may be too much trouble to put on".

Another deal I had in the works was to get Nike to sponsor a east Tennessee regional SPARQ combine. With my SPARQ certification, I could train other testers so that kids in the region could be tested and timed. Instead of many athletes going to places like South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida to get tesgted, there could be something in their backyard. What those jokes on the school board failed to realize is that with some of the connections I have, some great things could have been organized and facilitated at BOTH high schools and it would have benefited not only the coaches and kids, but also the community and the school systems. Not too many positives come out of Newport as far as athletics... they are few and far between. I had goals of helping every student athlete not only become a better athlete, but also give these kids an outlet for college by getting their names out to college programs. The coaches now do not help the kids ONE OUNCE!!!

Cosby is a little different and they have had more players play college football than Cocke County in recent times. That should say something right there...

How do I get in touch with you WP?

How do I get in touch with you WP?

Send me a message on this site through the private message if you wish. Also, please note that I live in Florida all the way down in the southern part, so I will not be in east Tennessee for a very long time. I simply replied to this topic to not only magnify the problems the CCHS program has, and also some recommendations from outside source on how to possbily correct them or steer that program out of the futility it accepts on an annual basis. If you cannot reach me, let me know and I will post an email address for you to contact me at.

There is another person on here that would offer some great insight and additional information on here, but I doubt he has the "stones" to come forward and say anything. This person was very critcial of the former CCHS coach and I would like to hear of his opinion now.

PTSportswriter... quit lurking in the shadows and say something!!!

Yeah it is a call out.... a former college coach (Tennessee) who used to "coach" at CCHS asked him to do a write up on the state of the program and even after an interview was set up, the "sports writer" slithered his way out of the interview. It's the same kind of apathy and negativity that surrounds the program which is the toxicity that corrodes the program even further. I mean there is nothing else worth a crap in the local paper, so why not write something? Be your own person rather than have people program you like a puppet. Besides, the truth does hurt and this program that we have all went into detail about may not be an actual program in the upcoming years if the results stay the same. I say hold everyone accountable and resurrect the program or shut the thing down, for good!!! Quit selling false hope to the kids and do whatever it takes to start winning games....

Remember this.... IF YOU DO WHAT YOU??™VE ALWAYS DONE, YOU??™LL GET WHAT YOU??™VE ALWAYS GOTTEN

I really do think that's fair in this situation!

Hey WP aj....Get off PT's back....Now I agree that the Plain talk is a rag...but PT does his best, and if you don't think he is critical enough, just ask the current coaches what they think of him and his negativity. Paul Meador is the problem..not PT.

Thats the problem right there. That its always somebody elses fault. How would Meador have ANYTHING to do with problems at CCHS , How would PT's Negativity be a major problem? I agree pt's usually a bit more harsh on coaches and players than maybe he should be but he doesn't Design , Call or Run any plays , as far as I know he's not in charge of offseason lifting. The problem is with the whole community , and everyone in the community wanting to blame someone else , and NOONE in the community wants to step up and help , and if they ever are they are told it's not needed???? REALLY.

I would like to see a state of the program article...not so much to just tear apart the program..but to shed light on some of the things that most of the community probably doesn't know about what all has went on. It would help to shed light on the program so perhaps the community would get behind a major rebuliding program. PT is more critical while Meador is basically all positive, but look at the two programs they are writing for..one deserves criticism while one deserves praise. PT probably just doesn't want to be the source of an article that could ruffle some feathers around here. I don't blame him, but the community should be more informed about problems the program has.

From an article titled "Plain Talk staff honored by Tennessee Press Association" published on July 23, 2008

"Finally, the Plain Talk's Sports Editor Paul Meador and Sports Writer Seth Butler received a fifth-place award for Sports Writing in their coverage last fall of Cocke County and Cosby high school football."

Fifth place in sports writing for the entire state is pretty good, especially when the award was for the 2007 season when Cocke County was 1-9 and Cosby was 2-8. You can't blame the writers or the paper for the failures on the field. It seems to me everyone is more interested in assigning blame than fixing the program.

    • Yea I agree I will say tho I was a big “ v “ fan if an  opening ever did happen I think it would’ve been good to see him have a shot coming from a power house like Oakland. I’m sure he’s learned a lot from Kevin.  I bet he would bring a really good offense scheme IMO But after all this I just dunno anymore.  Whatever happens with the rumors an such if it did come to and opening I think this messes it all up.  The board members dreams are slowly slipping away now. I haven’t lived there for awhile I just hear what I hear, but my question is would there be any good potential candidates?? That’s why I don’t understand why people want b s out so bad who else could do any better ?? IMO there’s nothing attractive about it? As I stated earlier I went to the last game last year and taking a leak in a porta Potty is pretty sad and still nothing being done they say ..
    • speaking of board members how can a man get arrested 12 days ago and still be head coaching a team in TC school system? looks like your right about the tc board members. I bet it would be different if they had a kid on the team
    • Grandma from Heaven looking down at the field to see if that gulley washer rain this past weekend sent to make a dent on that paint that some are claiming washes off of turf. Nope looks like Krylon Tough Coat.
    • I was just talking to a guy the other night about the basketball impact.
    • Who would want that job?  Can win just no chance of winning at a high level.
