As a Sequatchie County Dad, I hope we can play up to our potential this year. I also know that to be the man you got to beat the man! Marion will be very good, you never count out a scrappy Grundy team, Hixson has been very good for a while, not sure about CCS, do not see them enough to know. Unless Notre Dame was holding back this weekend they looked very young in the two games i watched. I know our coaches and the boys are working hard, and we have played even with Marion with this age group. This district will be a dog fight this year, no clear cut favorite.

I wiil agree, most people expected too much in Bargers 1st year, but not me; and we beat Whitwell by 20 or 21 points I do believe. Second the Basketball team has a lot of talent and egos, they under achieved all year. Third the baseball team got jipped out of a win in the warrior game last year, but that was are own coaches fault. Having said all this, I believe Sequatchie will win the district in the valley side at least.

hahahahaha... it'll never happen. muir and guyear are too much at marion. warriors will take it... again.

Muir and Guyear are very good ballplayers and Marion has more than those two but we'll see who's laughing soon enough. Marion will have all they can handle from Sequatchie. Whoever wins the valley side of the district should win the district overall.

Guyear and Muir are outstanding players and deserve every bit of the attention they get, but Marion is more than just them two. It takes nine. I think Lloyd, Morgan, Murphy ,Hill, Shadrick or whom ever is playing the other seven positions are just as important to Marion's success this year. Good luck to everyone this year.

I agree it takes 9. But those 2 will carry Marion County /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" /> /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />

At Notre Dame, we should be fairly strong if we can keep the injury bug away. We're pretty strong with Howard, Breckenridge, Swinney, Fox and Luketic. We have a couple strong freshmen, who will challenge for positions this season (What's the old saying? Best thing about freshmen is that they become sophomores?!), and DeoCampo is a walking triple.

We had a tough showing in the Hixson Play Day, but we were without 3 of our best players for most of the day and we were simply outgunned against RedBank. We can play with Soddy with our first 9, but Atkins was tough and will only get better for RB. What an impressive kid. I haven't seen their other pitcher, Walden I believe it is, but if he's better than Atkins, RB will be tough all year long. We also saw their JR Quarterback/Hurler Andy Christopher? He'll be good with some polish(Could definitely touch 90+ with some work).

We should be strong in our district with a full squad. We probably handle Bledsoe fairly easily with our district guys on the hill and our starting catcher behind the dish, though they battled us well and stranded 5 or 6 of our guys in scoring position. Grace played well, and we fell apart, but we were playing innings 15-20 at that point without enough arms to get the job done. I really liked the freshman they threw at us. He'll be one to watch in the next few years.

I thought the lefties (3-4 in the order I think) from Soddy looked like they could swing a little bit and the Haney kid can flat out fly. He's a serious burner. Didn't see anything incredible on the mound, but they're definitely not bad. They could get the job done for sure. They'll just have to find the answer to Walden and Atkins.

Other than Atkins I wasn't wowed by any of the arms we saw, but was glad to see most of the guys around the plate. We'll be alright at ND, and though we lost a lot from last year's squad, we're teaching our kids to play the game the right way. It's been pretty tough with no outdoor cage and a field that is a work in progress: we hadn't seen many live arms before the scrimmage day. Now that basketball is over, we'll get alot more swings in the gym before we open. Consider last weekend our rough draft, but look for us to compete for the district crown, at least on the city side.

Final thought: If you have a left handed son- Send him to ND next year. I'll teach him to hit it a ton and it's a slight porch in right field (Read: 245 ft, with a 45 ft high net). Just imagine: Your kid could set the national homerun record....I'm just sayin...

Go Irish!

I may ###### a few ego's off but,

I wanna know what senior is goin to step up and lead this Marion team...They been spoiled on the diamond with all the talent and coaching theyve played wit since they were freshman..(Im not sayin there less talented heck they are probably more talented)..... and i dont know except for maybe one or two that seen, learned from, and apprcaite all the hard work past seniors have put forth to get that program where it is at.....We will see how it goes...Ive always heard "leave a program better then what it was when you got there"

With some heart I see Marion pullin off the unprecedented 4 peat..(but not as easy as it has been in the past (actually it never was easy, but this team has some ground to cover)

on the other side

I wanna go wit Hixson...

Also as an above poster said you never can count out a Coach Ladd coached ball team in Grundy Co.....this is correct

This is how i see it.

1st level- Marion County- say what you want, but until somebody else can prove that they can win the district they are still the best. 3 in a row? come on. and all from the losers bracket i believe. Champs again in 09

2nd level-Hixson and Notre Dame. both schools have new coaches and lost a ton from last year, but when it comes time to play ball they will both be around.

3rd level- CCS and Sequatchie. the chargers are always scrappy, but cant seem to get it over the top. maybe this is the year. as far as sequatchie goes...rumor has it they had a good showing in the scrimmage, and maybe they jump all the way to the top, but its like the one guy said earlier "until they actually win something..."

4th level- Grundy. better than the bottom three.

5th level. East Ridge, BC, and Howard.

    • Way late on this post, but I do believe that I want to at least weight in so to speak lol. I wrestled NAIA competed against some of the best wrestler over all a crossed the divisions and felt great about my college wrestling experience. I think people make the mistake in believe that wrestling some how gets easier as a sport at the smaller college divisions it doesn't the training is mostly the same. I have that on good authority from a coach who was a D1 all-American. it's more the commitment level of the competitors that is different. There is talented wrestlers that can go D1 at any level in the smaller division. sub in Sammy Shires for one he would have done fine on a DI team. He chose a work life ratio that suited him. It's not about talent it's commitment are you going to make training and studying the sport the center of your world cause that's what it takes: NO MATTER HOW TALATENTED BEFORE HAND YOU ARE.  If so then D1 is for you and striving for success at that level is for you like Mr. Palmer said it's what your willing to put in. Now coaches if you have a successful wrestler who fits that bill then by all means D1 is a great option they will see some success no matter how small, but if they are not that committed along with being talented and a killer and you know it then your doing them wrong.  You don't have to tell athletes that you don't think they are D1 tell them to keep their options open to take all their visits to consider all the divisions regardless of their goals. college recruiting visits have you most times wrestle against their current wrestlers coaches and athletes  will find out real quick it's not easy no matter where you go. That way when they make their decision it's a sound one that's based on well rounded experiences.     BobCorker, and oceansize42 I believe what you are thinking is correct but for different reasons. TN wrestler's have the talent... it's a commitment level change. TN wrestlers aren't used to having to put themselves through the level of commitment required and kills them on the D1 level.    WrestlingGod, I agree you should push kids to pursue their dreams, but not at the cost of common sense period... we have to much of that going around this country already. Dreams can turn to poison when these wrestler are not educated on what it truly takes. In TN  a kid who understands wrestling to a high level can be successful with small amounts of hard work. They think their definition of hard work is enough for D1 that is the mistake not the "talent/understanding".  Over-all though we do not celebrate NAIA,D2,D3, or Juco success in this state like other states do. GA/AL celebrates all it's college wrestlers success a crossed the  board no matter the division. Why? because it's hard... I have gone to all the divisions National championships let me tell you to be a all-American at any is impressive especially D2 or NAIA. those guys can scrap and not one of those AA's are an easy match. all of them were state placers or champs multiple times in their high school careers. does that at all sound easy to place at? TN does not give those guys enough credit or shout outs period. it's an over sight because of this D1 or it's less than meaningless   mentality on this site and in this state. GA/AL is better then us on the highest stage because they send guys to D2,NAIA,D3 ect. they come back understanding the sport better then their pervious coaches, and give back and that cycles to athletes readiness to go D1 with clearer understanding of what it takes to be competitive day 1 freshman year.             My post isn't to support one way or the other but to just consider that both sides have merit and that both work when the system in TN. by system I mean coaches are the better educated on preparing athletes for each level they want and should pursue.
    • If you think McKenzie could've beat Riverside I have a bridge you might like to buy.
    • Hate to hear Ricky is heading to the old folk's home!
    • By recruiting, I mean members of a coaching staff are talking to, meeting with, giving tours, to students, and their guardians, that are not zoned for their school.    there’s no way that many non Bearden kids just showed up all at once without being recruited. It can’t be a coincidence that all those kids also went through the middle school all star game your boss puts on every year.
    • Not sure how I would put it as recruiting perhaps kids trying to better their career by going to a head coach and coaching staff with connections all over college football that gets them the opportunity to go play college football and be coached by a coach with a pretty good track record.
