URSUS
Funny you mention that about lacrosse, heard last night at drakes creek about how much lacrosse is growing. 280% growth in the last decade. Realistically the popularity of girls lacrosse could force softball to become a 2nd tier sport if softball does not keep pace. Perhaps a move to the fall would help counter act the growing trend of girls choosing lacrosse. Again just an opinion.
stlbrd
If I am in the minority than why doesn't the TSSAA play softball in the fall? Money........no way. They are in the minority with you..........
stlbrd
Just out of curiosity what would be your "Fall" softball season schedule. dates for : first day of practice, first game can be played, State will run from _____ to _______ . 2009 1st practice 2-9-09 1st game 3-9-09 state 5-19-09 thru 5-22-09 2010 it all moves up (2-15) a week like it has been in the past. Just wondering. Real simple, just mirror what GA does. Maybe tweek it a little bit..................no reason the season could not last until the first of November. wilson25
Mirror GA? What do you think of these rules for Ga. softball? The number of softball games allowed (not including region or state tournaments) shall be: 16 games plus one (1) tournament; OR 14 games plus two (2) tournaments; OR 12 games plus three (3) tournaments. Invitational tournaments shall be structured so that no school will play more than seven (7) games in that tournament. Schools may not enter any softball tournament other than the region tournament or state elimination series unless such tournament has been approved by the GHSA Executive Director. All varsity softball games shall be played with officially-dressed umpires who are registered under the GHSA plan for the registration of officials. The assignment of officials for regular-season games, invitational tournaments, and sub-region and region tournaments will be made by the GHSA office. The GHSA will assign one or more associations to each school for their games. The school and the local association(s) will sign a contract for the games that are assigned. In accordance with GHSA By-Laws, only one night before a school day per week may be used with competitions beginning at 6:00 p.m., or later. Don't fix it if it ain't broke. If we mirror another state how about Alabama?
URSUS
Alabama does allow 18 contest and 7 tournaments. Ga. places pretty strict limits on the number of games you can play.
5-Sport Dad
Don't fix it if it ain't broke. If we mirror another state how about Alabama? Random Thoughts... The problem is...that it IS broke, 'Mister Wiltson!' > Dennis the Menace, as he sits at home on a rainy March softball tournament-scheduled playday /sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" /> Mirror Alabama? Uhhhh, I don't think so! In anything!! Ain't Lacrosse a Burick?
my2cents
Alabama does allow 18 contest and 7 tournaments. Ga. places pretty strict limits on the number of games you can play. you could play in commando classic all week and then single elim. and play 16 games in one week if the weather would cooperate and it would count as 4. after the 2 games last night St benedict had gotten in 8. They are also sticking around for the games that are back on schedule for Sun.
5-Sport Dad
That's great to hear about St. Benedict. They will be better for hanging around and getting in more games, I hope. They should at least get the 'perseverance award.' Good luck to them!

my2cents
Could you do this in Goergia? No, the most you can play in one tournament is 7 games total.
wilson25
No, the most you can play in one tournament is 7 games total. Another reason not to mirror Georgia.
stlbrd
Don't fix it if it ain't broke. If we mirror another state how about Alabama? Your a funny guy, the question I answered had to do with when the season starts and ends. If you think it is not broken then you must not attend many games.
