District (beginning 2010 ) will be: Elizabethton, Happy Valley, Johnson County, Sullivan East, Sullivan North, and Unicoi County.

What kind of team dose Sullivan East have? BaldNbeautiful you seem to know a little bit about Johnson County, I know they were young this year but what about this freshman class coming up?

Sorry I didn't get back with you but I had been out of town (watching softball, what a surprise) but I did get you some inside info (my source is a sometimes contributor on here):

There were five eighth graders / upcoming freshmen and probably four or maybe five of them should make the JCHS team when they have tryouts for next season. One important thing to remember is that JCHS only had two seniors (April Wilson and Elizabeth Potter) and one junior (Heather Berardi) on the squad this past season. The rest were sophs and freshmen. We will reserve judgement on how well these players coming up were coached because it was the coach's first year at the MS level.

What I hear is that there are at least three of these upcomers that have potential to MAYBE see some playing time early: an outfielder (named Westphal or Westfall), a middle infielder ( Arnold) and a play everywhere utility player (Miller). I have seen them play when they scrimmaged Cloudland High School's Varsity and Junior Varsity and when they played at the MS Tournament against Unaka and Hampton. They look like players to me, at least on the MS level, and the JCHS coaches should definitely be able to help them realize that potential. Coaches Smith and Mullins don't seem to shy away from playing younger players if they believe they are better off with them.

I think of seen the Arnold girl play in travel ball in Pigeon Forge a list if it is the daughter of the asst. basketball coach up there, great fielder. I also agree with you on Coaches Smith and Mullins really good coaches who do a good job getting the girls ready to play. I know they always give us fits when we come up there.

Yes that is correct. She plays for a Travel Team out of NC called the Diamond Queens. She was described as a hard worker, great student and someone who has a real "feel" for the game.

Unicoi Co. is loaded all the way up and down the program. The state championship speaks for itself. The current varsity, jv, 8th grade, and 7th grade teams are all good. Nobody in District 1 will unseat them anytime soon. Elizabethton is clearly #2 and will remain in that spot for the next several years. Happy Valley is building up at the middle school level, but the success may not follow to the varsity. A great player went to Boone this year and her little sister will follow. I saw the Johnson Co. Middle School team twice this year. They played pretty well in a pre-season scrimmage against T.A. Dugger, but TAD beat them badly in the regular season. None of the younger Longhorns really stood out to me, though I did like the way one outfielder and one infielder moved in the field. I will assume they are two of the players others have referenced. Unicoi Co. is currently in a class by itself. Elizabethton is a notch below, but still very good. Everyone else is playing for third place for the foreseeable future.

your post is right on my friend,go lady blue

Though I love the lady blue, lets not forget were losing very key spots, Treadway @ SS, Ali Gardner CF, EB 1st base, Kara's Boss Whitley Hensley Catcher, Those are going to be tough shoes to fill! I still have my own opions of course who should be where being, retired coach and all. I'm sure Mr Grady will figure out the best for our team though!

I'm curious if anyone on this thread knows why the Happy Valley folks won't let Coach Dorsey coach the high school team. I agree with Coach 17's last couple of posts - Happy Valleys success may not follow to the high school level - despite their talent. I am told that Dorsey wants to coach at the high school level and he clearly has an interest and likes the sport. That's more than a lot of people are saying about H.V.'s current varsity coach. Just curious.

Being from Johnson County I do not know the answer to your question but my daughter played for the middle school and I got to watch them two times this year. You could tell the team was very well prepared to play and I thought he did a great job coaching during the game.

Well I don't believe it! Longhorn22 and I actually agree on something.

    • Yep..could possibly have 3 teams ranked in top ten in the same four team district.
    • He had an opportunity to be the OC at TC without final say in the offensive gameplan. How does that work? Smh. Head Coaches are public figures regardless of the community size, and yes there are some out there, it’s irrelevant and not fair to them to name them on here. Also why is said “head coach” the head coach of the MS baseball program to begin with? Oh because no one wants it. As for the Lebanon question, I know what I’ve been told so just going off here say, some of the boosters were not happy with his roster decisions and wanted him out. Although he lead them to 20+ wins in multiple seasons
    • A head coach in the school system? No I dont think so. Head coaches are public figures in small communities. Not trying to slander, but this is an actual question. Do you know why he was forced to resign at Lebanon? This was his second chance.  He already left trousdale once and had an opportunity to come back a couple of years ago but spoiled that.
    • Are you perfect? Nope no one is, at the end of the day there are several teachers/coaches and even some in the Trousdale County school system that have DUI’s on their record. You’re correct on it being a bad mistake and it unfortunately could have ended horribly. While you consider the consequences minimal, I can assure you they are not. Ultimately I hope and have faith that he will learn from it and use it to better himself.
