The runner can participate in the 5k as long as there is a designated line for the high school runner to start at least 100 yards back. The race no longer is a 5k and will therefore not count as a 5k race. Running in a 5k counts as a meet and the TSSAA has a set a limit as to how many races each team can run.

Did you just make that S@@@ up? Can you back up the 100 yards rule? I believe it is not in the TSSAA rules unless they just recently put it in. Here is the rule excepted from the TSSAA Handbook:

Q. Is it a violation for a registered athlete in track or cross country to participate in a road race?

A. No, provided the race is longer than 3200 meters during track season or longer than 5K (3.1 miles) during

cross country season.

Most smart race directors will tell the high schoolers to take one step back from the starting line, thus making the course longer than 5k.

mrcballer22, do you have any other 'made up' rules you would like to share with us?
