Pharr leaving Farragut

Buckner to Farragut...Sullivan to Bearden...Matthews to Catholic? Hmmmm. Would be interesting and certainly feasible with Matthews already used to being the Head Coach in everything except name.

Buckner a long time Farragut/Pharr guy, Sullivan a standout Bearden alum, and Matthews has worked with lots of the Catholic players via Thunder Baseball.

Buckner NOT going to Farragut. Sullivan NOT going to Bearden. Sullivan turned down the CAK job due to unfinished business and the tremedous amount of support at Catholic. Coach Sullivan has built a great complex at Catholic with alot of hard work and support from baseball parents, players and the Catholic baseball community. He's a very loyal guy and is confident that we'll compete in AAA. We had a great run this year without a couple injured key players that will be returning next season. Good luck to coach Pharr at CAK, and good luck to coach Matthews wherever he lands.

I have no personal knowledge of whether Coach Sullivan was offered the job and turned it down or not. But I can't imagine that Coach Pharr would be ANYONE'S second choice. If someone had asked me (which they wouldn't) who would be my first choice of any high school coach in TN, my answer would have been, "Pharr, but we'll never get him away from Farragut." I couldn't be happier with this choice.

Hey warrior, a question, how many "multi sport" athletes were on the baseball team last year? Can Pharr share players? i dont think he ever had to in the past

Good question--everyone has to share at CAK if the players are interested in doing more than one-we're too small not to. Kolinsky, Fromke, Houser all played football and baseball-may have been more.

Coach M offered to take care of fields and even teach PE. He was never given the

chance. M has been offering for 3 years. Coach M also had things worked out for

a former coach to help him with the baseball team and this man IS on campus.

Also worth noting, the 2 assistant baseball coaches did not leave because of their

displeasure with Coach M. They left because of the way coaches are being treated

at CAK

My comments are the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth. Maybe you

just can't handle the truth!!!

I can handle, you just don't have the whole story-on why they left or why a coach was asked to leave this year. Unfortunately, this forum can't put all those details on the table so the school ends up not having the whole story told-only way to handle personel issues though.

This is a puzzling situation if what you say is the truth which you seem to point out pretty clearly. He has his separate baseball operation with thunder and while that was a help to CAK, CAK wanted to have a real coach that could be a head coach on the field, while being listed as the head coach. Im not sure how coach M could have taught PE and run his operation over at thunder. Maybe they saw it that way. Im a big kent matthews fan and have known him since i was 4 or 5 so i hate to see him have to go like this. Im sure they had their reasons though. No worries, he'll always have his place here in the baseball community in knoxville. My question is, what does he do next?

I like Coach M too--this ended up being what was best for the school decision-and it shouldn't have been a surprise

Kent Mathews (CAK) did not know that he was NOT being rehired until Tuesday. Pharr was already

hired!!! CAK strikes again!! How can you justify firing the District Coach of the Year. Mathews was

a wonderful role model and great coach.

While Kent might be a GOOd coach, he is not a GREAT coach. Tommy Pharr is by far the best option for any high school in the state maybe even the south. With Pharr going to CAK they now have atleast 11 state championships for Spring boys sports.

i bet it doesnt happen next year though! Big losses. Kolinsky??? One thing he will not have at CAK that he did at Farragut: continuous deep classes of talent each and every year. While some talent will be attracted, he wont have anything like he had.

I have the whole story of the way the situation was handled with Coach Mathews!! If there

is another side, he wasn't aware of it.

I wish Coach Pharr the best at CAK. He and Mathews are both good coaches.

It is a shame the way coaches have been and are being treated at CAK.

Wonder who will be the next one that is asked to leave?

I bet John Rice from karns applies for the Farragut job.

    • The winds of change are blowing in Hartsville.     Will be an interesting follow.    Would go back to the 90s and turn black the clock!
    • Did he promise you a coordinator job or something if he ever got a head coaching job? He resigned? He was at the top of the dugout last night calling plays. I wonder if those 30+ parents would let him give their kids a ride. by the way the board meeting was last night and it was not mentioned. must have been at the work session earlier this week which is not public. must be trying to keep it quiet.  Since you know so much, how much is Robbie Atwood willing to pay Adam Cothron?  Didn't you slander Eden earlier on here? You also didn't know he was a faculty coach again so how much do you really know? Some people outside this county baffle me with their need to slander others.
    • He resigned smh, and have you ever heard of charged but not convicted. Some people in this county baffle me with their need to slander others. Have you asked any of the 30+ parents that signed a petition to get him reinstated at the board meeting this week how they feel about this? Just let it play out, at the end of the day the only people that will bring TC back are the ones that know what its about at its core.    People hate losing and they aren't used to it at TC. I for 1, and I'm sure others too, understand having a dip in talent and not being able to compete for a state title every year. But in the past, TC teams have outworked more talented teams, they didn't continuously lose the turnover battle, they didn't commit 8+ penalties in several games each season, and I believe several of the folks in town that want Blake out feel as if he is neglecting the history of the program. This is from a source that used to be extremely close to the program (not me lol), Blake gets out of school midday and the players show up and there is no practice plan or itinerary.  I also understand those that are on team Blake, when he has loads of talent, he wins. He does know football and he is a tremendous DC, and if the rumors are true then he will do great things. As for the board member issue, it is what it is, everyone that's true to the county know that and nothing has changed. I agree though that they should strive to make the facilities as good as we can. And as far as potential candidates, I agree there is very few options. West, Vetetoe (yes I know), and couple others that could have some interest. Whatever happens is massive for the program during a pivotal time before the next big wave of stars make their way through.
