MVM, good topic. I just see a bunch of players with a sense of entitlement. Beasly has no business being on the pitch, our central midfielder loses the ball to often, Altidore is too predictable. In essence our game is predictable but US sosccer has made some progress, I still think they need to fire Bradley and try to hire Guus Hiddink, he seems to work miracles where he goes.

Well I've got the TIVO set for US and Spain game. I just hope we don't get embarrassed. /dry.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="

I hope FIFA gives the US vs. Spain game a fair chance by assigning decent referees. I am so tired of the US getting shafted by poor officiating. If you have watched any of the other games in this tourney, you have seen fouls just as bad - if not worse - than the fouls that the US did that earned red cards. And that no call on the handball in the Egypt game yesterday really would have been a travesty if Dempsey had not scored later.

Time to get back on the band wagon! 2-0 over Spain! Of course I wouldn't think we were the better team today. Luck smiled on our team today.

I agree with many of your posts, and my main complaint for years is that we are a team of individuals. I still think our defense was suspect and our first touch is still not even close to many other nations.

I don't have the answer, but I do hope that our team manages to find itself.

OH MY INFINITE CREATOR.......Just saw your posts, and not that I didn't believe you guys.. but I had to go to ESPN web site to verify the score. /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />

While I want to jump on the band wagon soooo bad, I still have my doubts about this team. I must admit though, what a great victory. Maybe this game is the game that turns the tide. I really, really hope so.

United States soccer team in a finals game ...Who would have thunk it.

I still don't think they are a top caliber team. They had a GREAT result and played with passion tonight, but several things bothered me.

3 straight red cards in 4 games. That needs to end. While I don't agree with all of the calls, they were still called.

Spain played a great game, but just couldn't finish. Yeah yeah, I know, the US did what it took to win, but they packed the back and got it shoved down their throat for 60 minutes. Tim Howard is their BEST player and Enyewu saved their butts almost as much.

They are still too 1 dimensional. POSSESS PLEASE!

While it is a GREAT result, and I am pumped for the team, it isn't the kind of style of play that will take a team to the next level. They were scrappy and worked hard (for a change). But I would imagine that those kinds of games against the top teams in the world will be few and far between.

I'll eat my hat if they can pull it off against Brazil.

Also, isn't Bradley the player that just came back from a 5 game ban for an elbow?

Good thread and I cant believe you beat spain!!!

But heres my point of view of why the USA will not be a world force (altho you just battered spain, who have been unbeatable recently!). At high school level there is hardly no difference between you and England, in fact I would love to bring my U16 team over here and see how they would do. As the standard is more or less the same. The big difference I think is the college system. (Ouch Im waiting for stones to be thrown at me!)

In England, each professional club has about 30 players in age group U12,13,14 etc and at 16 the club signs these players to schoolboy forms, these players then train full-time with the club and their experienced professionals. At 18, the club then signs the best 2-3 players and these are now professionals who carry on training usuaully with the first team and learn from players who have been playing in the game for years. In america, they go college until they are 21 and then go the MLS (correct if iam wrong). This is where the huge difference is, players in england at 16 are playing with seasoned veterans and in america at 18 they go college; rooney 16, owen 17, ferdinand 18, beckham 18 and countless more started professionally at a yound age. Now I know adu and altidore went straight into the mls at a young age, but these two have gone to europe. Alot of english lads are now coming to usa to play college soccer, but these are the boys who have been rejected by their clubs and these are the 3rd teir clubs who dont want them. The level is not high enough to produce world class players, sorry. But at least they are getting an education, whereas in england they dont really.

Now dont get me wrong, I love the sport structure in the states but if you want elite football then the current college structure for soccer will not generate enough top class players. But you dominate every other sport in the world, so give us a chance with football!!!

I would agree with the comment made about the national team being very one dimensional. I have found with coaching in america that players always ask:

"What do I do when I have the ball here? Where do I run when i this position? Its all very sturctured and they seem to struggle with playing instinctively and not relying on the coach to play the game for them. As aonther poster has siad, lots of mini-games and the game will coach them and also probly let them have fun as well!

US showed how they could be a quality team. Phyiscal play by tall players. The spanish tried to beat the US with crosses - are you kidding me? The spanish midgets couldn't get "tall" enough to make this work, so they resorted to short corner kicks. Xavi was completly taken out of his game, his worst performance in a long, long time. Each time he touched the ball, Bradley made him play it square or backwards. Still want to know why the US is penalized with red cards for hard tackles. The card to Bradley was pathetic. Hoepfully Brazil will lose some players to cards today, as I think the S. African team will get quite chippy when they fall behind. Do watch the fouls in this game and see how they compare to the fouls/resulting cards that the US has been given. You will see a clear double standard.

    • Yea I agree I will say tho I was a big “ v “ fan if an  opening ever did happen I think it would’ve been good to see him have a shot coming from a power house like Oakland. I’m sure he’s learned a lot from Kevin.  I bet he would bring a really good offense scheme IMO But after all this I just dunno anymore.  Whatever happens with the rumors an such if it did come to and opening I think this messes it all up.  The board members dreams are slowly slipping away now. I haven’t lived there for awhile I just hear what I hear, but my question is would there be any good potential candidates?? That’s why I don’t understand why people want b s out so bad who else could do any better ?? IMO there’s nothing attractive about it? As I stated earlier I went to the last game last year and taking a leak in a porta Potty is pretty sad and still nothing being done they say ..
    • I have a sophomore that can do 177 (preferred) or 192. Sent you an email.
    • speaking of board members how can a man get arrested 12 days ago and still be head coaching a team in TC school system? looks like your right about the tc board members. I bet it would be different if they had a kid on the team
