Heat index monitor

I had a suprise visit by our AD Wednesday during our rainy practice. It was 85 and wet. He asked if I had my heat index monitor with me. I did, and all was good.

Just reminding you all to make sure you have it with you at all times.

If all of us coaches keep this under control, it will keep the T$$AA off our backs.

Have a great season!

It shows the real temp, and the heat index. Which is usually a lot hotter than what is really is. So if it is 97 outside, but the heat index is 105, you have to suspend outside activities and move indoors. It also has standards you have to follow concerning breaks and water.

Anyone who attended a rules meeting should have gotten this drilled in.

And quite possibly prevent an unfortunate heat stroke or possible death of a player, I think that would be far worse than the TSSAA on your back.

That pretty much goes without saying. I have mine at every practice. Yesterday was the only day in the last 2 weeks it even came on. The one I got doesn't register the heat index unless it gets hot enough to start to worry about. It has basically been at thermometer.

If you look at that guideline chart, the cut-off to suspend practicing is not that high of a temp/humidity combo, IMHO...seems like with true August weather, a lot of practices could be suspended...

Exactly....You have to be very careful where you place this monitor. Obviously, if you leave it in your vehicle, it will register off the charts. And, if you leave it out in the direct sunlight on any hot surface, it is not very accurate. With mine, I have to make sure that it is not touching anything that could change. I am about to get one of those ones in the link above. That is what the county AD recommended after I had already purchased one. I am going to have the rec league mount the one I got at the park by the concession stand, so everyone can get to it. And buy the SkyScan one.

Just a little FYI with the SkyScan one, It says on the box, " USE IN SHADE"

We use the SkyScan Thermal Indicator TI-Plus Model

It's a very good investment. This morning at 10:00 the HI was 99

You don't keep the monitor in the freezer do you? Care to make a prediction on the October game between Ryan and JPII. Glad to see you are still kicking, I thought last year you moved out of state, not too many posts, but we know why.

    • This is a great question. The retirement seemed a little premature. I do not know the coach personally, but I hope he has found what he is looking for. He is a fine Christian man with a lot of principle and morals about him. I wish him nothing but the best. There are some players in the box for the next coach. This is going to be interesting to see how it plays out.
    • Agree? Your the one defending a dude with your life for getting a DUI. That's the worst thing on here.
    • Can’t believe no one posted on this and gave this team the recognition they deserve!  AAU team Tennessee went to Iowa and done what no other team had ever done and took down Iowa and the strength by holds in AAU nationals!!! Yes McCallie had a solid group of 8th graders and they showed up but we had an AAU team that wrestled their butt off and we didn’t just place in the top 5 … we won the whole dang thing! Yes the NHSCa’s were happening and that may have hurt but never once had TN ever won the national folkstyle duals national championship!!  It was a team effort and some amazing young kids!!!    We are not a fly over state any more… on a side note : we have any even better team for cadet National's team duals in Utah and have a chance to sweep both duals which would be unprecedented!!! However the funds aren’t there and USA isn’t in th position to help these kids get to utah as was AAU that got us to Iowa! Stay tuned for some oppertunities to help make a statement for Tn!!!
    • Right cause you know me, you may know my name, what I post on here, what I say on our shows, but you don’t know who I am. And if your class ring doesn’t say Trousdale County high school, quite frankly I don’t care what you say.
    • I agree but I will say I’m not hiding behind a screen name, I’m easy to find and not hard to miss lol
