New weigh in procedures

Has anyone noticed the change to the weigh in procedures? If I read the rule correctly, there will no longer be a 1 hour weigh in periond at tournys. The weigh in will have to start at a specific time with the 103 lb class and proceed in order through 275 lb. Also, no one can leave the weigh in area until weigh ins are complete. What if the weigh in area is not large enough? If your team gets caught in traffic and is 10 minutes late, then you might have to forfeit the first 3 or 4 weights. I realize the national federation is trying to discourage weight loss in this sport, but the rules being adopted don't appear to be very reasonable. How about a minimum body fat requirement? At the start of the season the body fat percentage would determine your minimum weight for the year. Would it be too tough to enforce? All I see that has come out of the new rules is that every team carries their own scales to ensure that everyone is on weight before they enter the weigh in area

The new rule is really going to cause havoc for the officials and host schools. Tournaments are going to be crazy with tournament directors publishing one time for weigh-ins to start and then wanting to delay them until a school that is running late can arrive. How many schools have an extra gym where all tournment wrestlers can weigh and then hang around for the duration of the weigh-in. Last year was wild but this year may be a truly crazy. Did a group of womens soccer coaches make up the rules for wrestling, because anyone with common sense would be able to see the problems that everyone is going to have?

Tennessee may want to consider using weigh masters to conduct the weigh-in period and allow the officials to just officiate the matches. Some states now use this method.

These rules were in effect last season. There were not 1-hour weigh-ins at tournaments or 30 minute weigh-ins at dual meets last season. The weigh in period begins at the scheduled time and proceeds until the weight classes have gone through once. If ANYONE on your team is in the weigh- in room, your ENTIRE team has arrived for weigh-ins. Once you've made weight, you can leave. You CANNOT leave if you haven't weighed-in or if you didn't make weight on the first attempt.

Last year there was a "holding area" but it appears that this has been eliminated from the rules this year according the the NFHS website. I would guess that once weigh ins have started, if your team doesn't arrive before they go through the weights, you CANNOT weigh in unless there are outstanding circumstances. These can include traffic accidents, traffic jams, etc, but they must be accepted by TSSAA and/or the tournament directors.

Weigh-ins do not have a time limit. Once they've started they could go very quickly. The times listed in the rule revisions of the NFHS site refer to the time (1 or 2 hours) that the weigh-ins can START. One hour before a dual meet or 2 hours before a tournament starts. You can't start them any earlier.

What you saw happening last year was that teams were not moving into the weigh-in ROOM until they knew their entire team was on weight. This is a gamble unless they posted someone outside the room to listen to see what stage the weigh in process was in. Cutting weight is allowed outside the room but NOT in the weigh-in room. DQ'd if caught. Each state has a variation of this proceedure but this is the TSSAA version.

Very confusing for everyone, but that's how it is suppose to be. Sorry for the long post.
