pioneerfan54
A little birdie tells me a hire won't be made until mid January. Curious as to how many of the supposed 40+ applicants are getting an interview? Looks like we have a while to wait...
stevotn
Does this little bird, we will call him Woodstock in the spirit of 'A Charlie Brown Christmas'...Does Woodstock believe this to be a done deal and a coach has already been chosen, or does Woodstock think there are more candidates to be interviewed? Phoenix
Does anyone know if they are still taking applications? I believe that they have closed it. Although, you might still want to give it a whirl.
Nitro14
I have never seen such ridiculous posts on Coach T. Talking XBOX, cartoons, etc. Seems pretty clear that if we find coaches that are mature we will be fine.
Phoenix
From the Southern Standard "Board narrows search in coach hunt Former professional athletes and coaches have applied By RON MOSES Sports Editor for the Southern Standard (McMinnville, Tenn.) According to Roy Pierce, who is a member of the WCHS panel that will be selecting the next head football coach for the Pioneers, the committee is narrowing down applicants and they have seen some highly qualified coaches looking to fill the position. At this point, nine applicants have made the short list of contenders and Pierce says he couldn’t be happier with the quality of those applicants. “All of the coaches we have interviewed,” he said, “are 100 percent committed to coming here. We have seen a lot of guys who are highly qualified to fill the position.” Some of the names of note who are in the running are Tommy Johnson, who some may know for his play under coach Gene Stallings or his work in the NFL for the Jacksonville Jaguars. He also spent time coaching in the Arena Football League prior to the league’s shut down not long ago. Johnson has ties to the Middle Tennessee area and looks to return. “There are a lot of applications from local folks,” said Pierce. “Some of these coaches have been away for 20 years or so and just want to move back to the area.” Another name thrown into the running is Scott Smith. Smith is best known for his work with Ezell Harding where he took that program to the state tournament in 2003. Pierce enjoys the fact he and his colleagues on the panel have such a high quality group of candidates this time around. “This is the best group of candidates we have had to choose from,” he said. “We have always chosen the best person for the job, but, this year we have some guys with really good résumés. I don’t know if it’s the economy or what, but we have a different caliber of applicants this time.” Pierce says some of the candidates preferred not to have their name mentioned for this article, but others being considered range from former professional athletes and local coaches who want to move to a bigger school."
