I see that MUS continues to get disrespected. Not only does USA Today under rank them, but Sonny Moore puts them at #2 in the state....BEHIND White Station. Does this make sense? MUS whips White Station 55-35, but White Station still gets the nod? WOW!!!

Had never heard of Sonny until now. Besides the MUS - White Station rankings, Franklin is ranked ahead of Brentwood who beat them twice (both close) and Smyrna (5-4 ranked #9) is ranked ahead of at least three teams that beat them.

I am fairly certain his rankings do not factor in the strength of schedule of out-of-state teams, and therefore his ratings may be understated (or overstated, but certainly not in the case of MUS this year) because of the absence of consideration of those OOS teams.

 

Just checked the fine print; yes, that is the case:

 

Only games played against the teams in the ratings are used to formulate the power ratings.

guess not, but what I do know is MUS and Alcoa both went 15-0 and both won state. What I dont know is how you can claim to be the best in the state when you didnt play either of the perennial powers in Tennessee, the F5 and maryville. Everybody knows that west tn is the weakest of the 3 sections of the state. it took maryville like 3 undefeated years in a row to crack the top 25 and Alcoa 6 championships in a row to get in top 50. the rankings always favor the privale schools. just something we have to deal with i guess.

MUS is ranked higher in the national polls because they beat South Panola, Olive Branch and the White Station team that ran all over Maryville. I say MUS is the better team because I have watched both teams play this season, and believe the Owls have a far more effective scheme, and execute with greater efficiency in all phases of the game.
