TSSAA is a JOKE!!!!!

I'd like to see the classifications be 6 classifications like in football...for example: 1-100 Class D, 100-300 Class C, 301-600 Class B, 601-900 Class A, 901-1300 Class AA, 1301 and above AAA. Right now in A you have schools with 100 students playing school with over 500. Jackson Co. has over 500 students, Coalfield has over 500, Moore Co. has 400, Wayne Co. has 389, North Greene has 433, Middleton has 611, Scotts Hill has 361 and I couldn't find how many go to Arts & Sciences. All are the bigger schools in single A. It is an accomplishment for very small schools like Clarkrange with 233 students and Pickett Co. with 205 students to have won 8 championships and 5 championships each when they play schools two and three times their size. Plus with 6 classifications, TSSAA would make more money and that always seems to be the bottom line.

the fact is you only have 5 playing at a time and about 12 on the whole squad no matter how many in school, and I agree more to pick from but Jackson co. with almost 500 (not over) had as much success in aa for 10 years being the smallest school every year as they have in a. The only thing making more classes would do is let some of weaker teams play longer.I personally would like to go back to small and large only then the 2 winners play for the championship.Of course I'm from the old school when I was in school everybody in same class then you really had to be good to go to state.

There would be a lot of money lost in the early rounds. Region tournament would only be one game and no substate. That is quite a few games being lost. I agree with elimination of substate, but I think top two in district should go. How can you not seed district tournament? Does the regular season mean nothing? Why not take top 16 to state after region. Play sweet 16 & elite 8 Friday sat and final 4 and championship next fri sat. Play boys and girls same weekend.

go ahead and seed the District games. But absolutely, under no circumstance should a team move on after a loss. You lose in the districts, and you are done. Otherwise the district round is then meaningless. If you make it a one and done you will automatically double the attendance at most of these games. And it will mostly be STUDENTS that will care more. Parents are going to be there anyways. Students have too many other things to do, why would they go to a game if they know they are going to get a chance to go to a more important game later on in the tourney. I have heard this line of thinking from far too many students. They dont care about the Districts because they know their team will be there in the Regionals.

And if you let 2 through the Districts then you still have to deal with the "did so-and-so lose to get a better draw in the regional" problem.

Lose and go home. I promise that it would make a better tourney. And there would be plenty of interest.

Dont have time here at work, but later tonight I will go through the brackets and see what this gives us with the current set up.

If you lose in the district you get a tougher game in the region (barring upsets), I'd say many would rather go watch a more winnable game especially if it's quite a distance to travel.

Five or especially six classes would be too much I think, maybe not spreading the talent too thin as just spreading the regular season districts too far apart. That was a major reason football went back to three regular season classes. With six the Class A cutoff would be about 350 and it would contain about 55 schools. Your options would be 16 districts (averaging less than 4 teams each, so not an option), 8 districts (averaging 7 teams, not bad, but really, really spread out) or 10 or 12 districts for the different parts of the state (which would have to have byes or seedings on records, a complete mess just as football postseason was).

senator, the more I read of your posts, the more respect for you I have. There's some merit to the arguement that "the more to pick from the better the team". My personal theory however, is that young ladies(and men) need mentoring, and that a really good coach is worth his/her weight in gold balls. There's no secret potion added to the drinking water in schools that are traditional powerhouses,no jersys or school colors with magic powers.Tradition DOES matter in the fact that the smaller kids are practicing in driveways all across the state dreaming of being the "next in line"to have their jersy retired at.....fill in the blank.I Purposley said mentoring, not coaching, because it's more than X's and O's,it's attitude,it's teaching a kid that the most talented is not the best, somtimes it's most effort, most desire, the more prepared that come out on top.As I'm from west tn, I'm not able to follow closely middle & east tn.,but I could right now fill out a very short list of class A teams(8-10) to go to M'boro and, not only next year, but for the next several years, most will, just as they have for the last several.Does that make me a genieus?Ha-no it doesn't.Does it tell you that programs, not random teams go to state?Hmmmmmm...........you decide. :thumb:

(but she did get her first Triple double the other night in the jr pro league. hahahaha. 12 points, 15 rebounds, 12 steals.)

Actuall, coalfield only has about 200 in their high school (graduating between 40-50 every year). It's a K-12, so possibly 500 in the whole school. Every girl grew up in Coalfied schools as well! Unlike JC and CR! :thumb:

    • Tax payer dollars are paid for certified teachers to "teach" and then coach. The primary job is to teach.  There are some district that ay awesome supplements and others that don't. Dyersburg and Dyer County are pretty close if I remember correctly. I would imagine that Football and basketball are above $10,000 now.  I've heard that Milan is $20,000 for boys basketball. I would imagine that football is more than that in Milan.  Collierville has camps that coaches get paid extra for. 3 camps a year, 100 kids a camp, $30,000 right there.  There are places like Memphis-Shelby County schools where the supplements are garbage even for the head coaches. I made less than $3,000 as the head assistant at Germantown in 2015 when we were 26-4 and one of the best teams in the Southeast. As a head middle school coach next year I will make between $4-5,000 at a municipal in Shelby County.  Coaches should be compensated for the jobs that are required but lets keep in mind that they are educators first.  It's pretty frustrating to other teachers that work their tale off teaching 6-7 classes a day to watch someone roam campus, not teach (or have very minimal responsibilities), and get paid the same (more with supplements) as a person who has the some years of experience or sometimes less.
    • This will get coaches leaving the profession very quickly if this kid wins this case. This is absurd...
    • yeah money aint right there anymore
    • I suppose you are correct but from my understanding it was going to be a situation of the HC saying yay or nay to every play
