Recent Baylor graduate Richmond Poindexter has been selected as a national scholar-athlete by US Lacrosse and the Tennessee Scholastic Lacrosse Association.

A two-year starter for Baylor coach Jon Bloom, Poindexter had seven assists, eight goals and 45 ground balls this past season from his defensive midfield position to help guide the Red Raiders (17-2) to the 2010 Division 2 state lacrosse championship.

Poindexter is one of three athletes from Tennessee selected as national scholar-athletes along with Taylor Valadie of Christian Brothers and Cory Wollaeger of University School Nashville.

Poindexter, a four-year boarding student from Inverness, Miss., graduated with a 3.84 grade point average, scored a 31 on the ACT, a 1260 on the SAT and will attend Washington and Lee in the fall.

As a junior and team captain, Poindexter’s stats were five assists, 12 goals and 35 ground balls as Baylor was 12-5.

Richmond’s leadership and team play helped us finish with our best record in his four years on the team as we won the Division 2 state title,’’ said coach Bloom. “His solid work ethic carries over into the classroom."

    • I used to think like that many many moons ago.  I wondered the same questions but learned that it is just not that easy.  Hiring assistant coaches can be complicated at times.  It takes a few years for HC’s to get who they feel is right for their system.  Couple that with good assistant coaches getting better jobs at times and leaving your program. More to it than some think.  I think you have a good coach up there and time will tell that story.
    • okay.  Like i said initially, it's question we have to ask, but we sure don't know the answer yet.
    • You’re right, I shouldn’t jump the gun on it. Hopefully it isn’t related to the sports programs, because it’ll end up affecting a lot of innocent kids who just enjoy playing sports.
    • I totally agree but just don’t want to see people jumping the gun by insinuating it was for athletic reasons. Nobody knows at the moment except for those involved in the incident itself and those investigating.
    • Bruh, That portion of the post was simply a product of my imagination. Try to keep up.  The real purpose of the post was to rub salt in this fresh wound following FF’s departure to BGA.
