I got to see USJ last night against Jackson NS. USJ struggled big time with NS's speed. USJ lost 14-0 in 2 quarters. You could tell that USJ lost alot off of last years team. USJ lost Preston Overbey, Dusty Bright, and the Martindale boy. They also lost McWherter on the OLine as well. Jake Overbey is still at QB, but he doesn't have the caliber of WR's he had last year.

USJ showed nothing in the jamboree. Probably one of the top, if not the top receiver did not play and starters did not play much at all. You don't replace an Austin Martindale, who set the state record for most TD receptions last year, but hopefully receivers will step up as the year goes along. Watch out for JCS this year - they are going to surprise some people.

Looks like Knox Webb got off to a fast start against 5A Knox Central with a 35-6 win. The Spartans rushed for a total of 432 yards including a combined 355 yards rushing from the Blance brothers. Webb's o-line is coming together. Starters pretty much were removed by the end of the third quarter. They still have a lot to work on in limiting penalties and gaining experience as a defensive unit but overall they looked very impressive.

Webb probably is glad that they are in the lower divison because they can actually win the title in it. And i'm no DA fan either but from what i heard they physically owned webb last year and Webb got to go play in the west side of the bracket in the playoffs. I guarentee KNOX WEBB will not win state this year. Not even the region.

Dear 69,

Would you like to make a wager? My house is about 3500SF, i will wager that against your "guarantee" and your house.

222 yds to be exact, and Webb lost 4 fumbles. DA has no chance in Knoxville. Do you have a house?

Hats off to FRA... they played one heck of a game last night at Webb. They really took it to Webb on both sides of the ball and seemed to physically win the battle at both lines of scrimmage.

Their defensive scheme shut down the majority of Webb's offense and didn't allow any second half points. FRA's offensive plan seemed a little scattered but when they finally decided to let #1 and #10 make the plays they were very effective. There were times where FRA kind of out-smarted themselves with cute play calls that ended up hurting them.

Nevertheless, I was very impressed with how FRA played. #1 is an absolute warrior. I've seen a lot of HS football and this young man went all out on every play.

Webb will need to overcome the issues they had last night with ball security, penalties and lineplay if they want to make a run into the playoffs and back to Cookeville to defend their title. It also appears that injuries to starters are starting to add up and with only 40 or so on the roster the lack of depth could also be a factor.

This Friday it's a rivalry game against Knoxville Catholic. It's going to be a great atmosphere at Catholic and these two teams will be ready to go. I know the Irish would like to pay the Spartans back for breaking the streak last year but I think Webb will be ready. In fact, their performance last night could have been a result of peeking forward to Catholic just a bit.
