Well, there you go Bean! The definitive source of TN Girls's HS soccer rankings (Mr. Mjuhb)ranks Knox West #5 in AAA and # 6 overall.

Congratulations, young ladies.

Maybe being a little under-rated is better than being a little over-rated

Time will tell, but this district is tough, and full of surprises.

Says a lot about District 4 that West is ranked #5 in the state but will be a 3 seed in district if they lose/tie to Catholic tomorrow. Would be some fun soccer to match the top 5 in District 4--Bearden, Catholic, West, Farragut and Maryville against the top 5 in District 11--Franklin, Independence, Ravenwood, Brentwood and Centennial. Some solid teams are facing early exits in district tournaments.

Nice job, MJ. One note in overall--Bearden (18) beat Greeneville (15) 2-1 yesterday so probably deserve to be higher in the overall rankings.

Whether you believe in rankings or not, 10 of top 15 from two districts. Crazy!

Not bad for a non-coaching poll, but do believe Bearden deserves to be ranked higher. Bearden should win the region and West should be the runner-up. Nothing coming from region one.

I agree Bearden is an outstanding team and probably deserves a higher ranking. West plays at Catholic tomorrow which should be a very good match. Those two will in all likelihood turn around and play each other again next week in the district tournament semifinal. Bearden, West, Catholic and Farragut all have a chance to win the district tournament over the next 10 days and Maryville should not be counted out. District 3 has two very good teams in Oak Ridge and Hardin Valley and I would expect them to advance to regional play. Karns obviously has Oak Ridge's number so tournament week should be very exciting in Region 2.

The West Catholic match may be a precursor to the district final, depending on how the tournament is seeded and played. I wouldn't go as far as saying anyone has anyone's number. Remember last year, Bearden beat West in the regular season handily and West beat them in the district final. That's why the game is played. Also, look to all teams to be really pumped up. The speed of play will be faster than the regular season so the young players will have to step it up a notch and the go to or money players will have to take it up as well. In the end, its who wants it more.

OK, Catholic just beat West 3-0. What does that do to the standings (Catholic in 1st?) and district tournament match-ups?

From my understanding,(which is often limited) the district tournament rankings;

1-Bearden

2-Catholic

3-West

4-Farragut

5-Maryville

6-Lenoir City

7-William Blount

8-Heritage

Tournament starts Saturday.

Not all teams in the district played each other. If a team chooses not to play a district game I think it is recorded as a 3-0 win for the opponent.

Catholic looked very strong last night. Strong back line that West kept trying to play over with little success. Physical midfield with excellent first to the ball attitude and multiple forwards making runs as the midfield brought the ball forward. They looked really good.

First round, Farragut 3-0 over Maryville. A rough hard fought win, Maryville never gave up and kept pushing all the way to the end. Katy (keeper) came up big with a PK save and later an upper 90 save

Bearden handled business with an 8-0 win over Heritage

West came back from 2-0 deficit to beat Lenoir City with 3 goals in last 20 minutes. Strategic personnel shift by Sonny made the difference.

No info on Catholic/William Blount.

Farragut vs Bearden round 2 should be a dandy! Bulletin board material: Turner glad about not breaking Bearden scoring record against Heritage, so she can do it against Farragut. Disclaimer: heard it from a friend who heard it from a friend who heard it from a mother of Turner's teammate, so no idea on validity.
