The name of this thread is "Is Webb really the best team in DII". A couple of thoughts on that question.

After they were classified as D2-A by TSSAA, have they scheduled and played any D2-AA opponents?

Is it even necessary to play the AA teams to say how they would compare with them in the past year?

First answer--No. Probably the greatest deterrent is the issue of distance (our schedule dictates we travel extensively for regional games).

Second answer--I am sure there are Monte Carlo models of hypothetical match-ups that could be ran to see what would happens. Fortunately for us the championship is not based on an NCAA BCS type model and only on what happens next week.

My only concluding thought is that these boys have not had a complete, undefeated season in 42 years and never won back-to-back championships. Regardless of the polls, these boys have much to be proud. And I'm impressed there is even talk that they could be considered "the best of the best".

Every season is different. However, to the extent that objective data may be more useful than name-calling, in the 2 years that Webb was in DII-AA as it is currently constituted (2007-2008), their record against other DII-AA teams was 5-8. Their record against Ensworth was 0-2, against MBA was 0-1, and they were 1-1 against Baylor, BGA, JP II, McCallie and Father Ryan. They did not play BA either of those years.

In your own words, each season is different. And as they say in the prospectus, previous performance is not an indicator of future results.

Objectively speaking, you are using teams from two years ago playing in today's schedule. Today they have today two 1,000 yard running backs, a 4 year starter at quarterback, a dominate o-line, two defensive ends that are All State quality and a slew of juniors, sophomores and freshmen (one of whom is a son a former NFL player) to build on for the future.

It's the entire absolutism of his previous comment that warrants amusement.

No need to get defensive; the only opinion that I have expressed on this thread is that Webb is a fine team; as a matter of fact, we miss Webb in DII-AA. jmjm is entitled to his opinion, as are you - no need to call names just because his/her opinion does not match yours.

If you keep repeating the same lie, sooner or later someone is bound to believe you!!!!!! Give that one up - no one outside of Blount County believes that any more. I have always held Alcoa and Maryville in high regard, but am having second thoughts on that based upon the comments of some of their "fans" on these boards. It seems as though you cannot be happy with your team unless and until everyone else concedes our inferiority and begs your forgiveness for even trying to put a team on the field. Try this one - Congrats to Alcoa on beating a 6A team this year - guess that makes y'all the best there is. Congrats also to Maryville for making it to the finals again - they'll probably beat Smyrna by a whole lot more than Ensworth did. Guess that makes Maryville second only to Alcoa; a No. 1 and a No.1a if you will. Now that I have bowed to the almighty Blount County teams, will you please find something else to do and leave us alone????
