Tullahoma at Columbia

I have no problem with a PA announcer being partial to his own team, as he/she should be. My dad has been a PA announcer for many years. And yes, he is partial to the team he is announcing for whether it be Tullahoma, Shelbyville, or Moore County. Yet, he will show the opposition some professional courtesy and not be running his mouth when the opposing offense is at the line of scrimmage. That's the fans job. There's nothing wrong with pumping up the crowd while teams are in their huddle or approaching the line. After that, leave it to the fans. As far as the horn is concerned, I really don't have a problem with it. Lots of teams have different noisemakers to celebrate scores such as cannons, fireworks, etc. The fact that it was pointed directly at the opposing crowd and hidden in an enclosed sign to give it a megaphone effect was totally obnoxious. However, I don't recall it being sounded once in the second half when columbia scored twice or at the end of the game to celebrate the Columbia win. Go figure. <_<

You do make a good point. Good post. I was at the game, but I sat on the home side so you probably are right about the horn being directed towards the away side. I did not really pay that much attention to the announcer during the game honestly, but if he was announcing while Tullahoma was at the line of scrimmage, that is a little out of line,I agree. Once again it goes back to the homefield advantage because when Lawrence County played T-Town this year, Your band(which is quite outstanding by the way)played many times while LC was in the huddle and at the line of scrimmage. I really don't see the difference in a band playing and a pa announcer talking. I am not condemning the band for playing, though. I was on the field for Lawrence County, and sort of enjoyed the challenge of hearing our quarterback call plays while listening to "Don't Stop Believin'.lol

Congratulations to the Tullahoma High School Band and the number that made mid-State and All State.

I was correct in assuming, based on the PA announcer's reaction, that the lights had been turned off in prior game. http://columbiadailyherald.com/articles/2010/11/20/sports//01lions.txt states this was the second time that the lights had been turned off in a game. Obviously those in charge of the stadium did not learn from that first time so here is hoping that they learn from the second incident and keep a lock on the switch at all times. Granted the person should not have pulled the switch but the switch should not be able to be activated by anybody that walks by. I wonder where the controls to the sprinklers are?

That should make that guy feel much better!!! At least we know now there is another one just like him. Lets blame Columbia for not putting the switch to the lights in a better place, the band for not being there, the PA guy for being loud and the horn in the end zone. I am not sure any of the above really had anything to do with the game except the lights being turned off and that was only a 20 minute delay. Columbia was just the better team! Oh yeah, Congrats to the band!!

For more about bands, horns, PA announcers, and the actual game listen to high school sports plus tonight @ 6pm on fantasy 101.5 or fantasyradio.com

I listened to the show tonight and I thought yall lightly touched on the problems with the PA announcer. I was at the game and I honestley didn't notice the problem that has some so upset. I thought the PA announcer was very excitable but that is just home field advantage. The remarks about the band and the horn is what just floored me! The horn was in the endzone and looked to me like it was pointed toward both sides and I didn't see where it harmed either team or fans. The band not being there seemed a little unusual but I did see horns and people playing them. I guess what I am a little amazed at is that I am finding it hard to believe that Tullahoma is complaining about these things on here. Tullahoma is better than that and I am a little disappointed. Tullahoma had a great year but got beat by a better Columbia team.....end of story!

I am not blaming losing a football game on the band. If you get whooped you get whooped. There was no question about Tullahoma getting whooped. I was expressing my displeasure in the fact that at the biggest game of the year the band chose not to be a full participant in the football program.

I feel your pain!! Don't think for a second you have the only school with this problem. I think the problem is when the band director forgets that the school has a marching band and not a competition band. I for one think that if there is a football game then the band MUST attend! I also understand that the kids in the band do compete, and for the most part this is how they really get rewarded for their accomplishments. Tullahoma has the best band I saw this year and I can understand why they would want to compete for something more than applause. I guess I am on the fence on this one!

    • hey goat! how’s monterey looking this year?!
    • several people actually. they said “snoball, do you know who railbird81 is on coacht?” I said, “never heard of her.” they said, “you ought to check it out they’re getting fired up on there like the old days.” well, you can imagine my disappointment when I came here expecting sharp, witty banter and all i found was more akin to toddlers slap fighting. and what looks like 1 guy/gal talking to themselves with multiple accounts.
    • Shopping? His family is loaded and he's 6'6 I'm pretty sure he could start anywhere in upper East TN,So no need to shop. Word is Witten got caught trying to work him out on campus and some 7 on 7 while playing athletics for Sullivan East. Word got around pretty quick and Someone turned them into TSSAA.
    • Quick update on Jacob -  Jacob celebrated his 16th birthday at Vanderbilt on Tuesday and has been in decent spirits.  His sense of humor has begun to show as he was visited by many friends.  He is swallowing a lot better now and has eaten some of his favorites (Chik-Fil-A and Five Guys).   He is getting prepared to head to Atlanta to the Shepherd Center first thing tomorrow morning.  His family has been waiting on insurance approval. In case you dont know the Shepherd Center it a world class facility and supposedly one of the best in the country for spinal injury rehab.  Praying for perfect results there. Considering the circumstances, Jacob is in decent spirits.  He has some reflexive movement in his legs which I think is probably a very positive sign.  Don't read too much into that just yet as there is no telling what the real prognosis is... just hopeful that is good thing.  I am really just happy that it seems like he has a punchers chance of getting something back.  He is a strong young man and very determined so I think he will fight as hard as he can in physical therapy while down in Atlanta. More than one of you has asked me about an address to send donations.  I know GoFundMe isn't for everyone.  If you want to go that route, you can make a check to "Blackman Wrestling Club" and we will pass anything received directly to the Kinderdines.   Jacob Kinderdine c/o Blackman Wrestling 4836 Trevino Court Murfreesboro, TN  37128 Also, want to thank everyone who has donated so far.  Jacobs dad will take a month off work and stay in Atlanta with him.  They need to learn how to take care of him and do home therapy work..... and surely Jacob will be glad his dad can be there.  All that could not happen without you all.  Depending on what happens, they will probably end up doing some home remodeling in order to accommodate Jacob at their home.  Thanks again. Here's a pic I lifted from Facebook of Jacob on Oxy talking to his Uncle.  LOL
