The female official was absolutely awful

Wow! That is hard to believe. Must have been painful to watch.

It was really astounding. Touch fouls galore. If a defender got within 6 feet of a ballhandler she would start a 5 second count. Gave the ball to the wrong team on out of bounds more than once. Terrible, terrible calls on blocks/charges.

I've seen some really bad officiating over the years in Metro but I really think she was one of the worst.

I thought the A championship game was well officiated. Yes there was a female on the crew.

The worse officiated game was Riverdale AAA semifinal.

One point that you have reminded me of: I have seen some very good female officials. I don't mean to lump them all in together. This particular one was really bad.

Many fans have never 'worked' a game, but still know good or bad officiating when they see it.

Maybe fans that follow the rule changes would know; however when you still have fans chirping about "over and back" and dont know the rule was changed many years back? Or they dont know that the defender CAN be moving and still draw a "charge" call? Its the smaller nuances of the game that makes a fan "know" the game-not because they played 2 decades ago or they have watched 35 games for 4 seasons as their son/daughter played for their school.

Agreed. BUT, there is a disturbing number of people running around with TSSAA patches on their striped shirt that don't know either. For the record, I saw both females in the state during the regular season and they did a better job than most.

An official can know rules. Anyone can. To call a technical foul on a coach for saying "that's a foul" while standing in the coach's box in the fourth quarter of a state championship game proves that a lot of people know rules but they don't know the game.

Overall, the quality of officiating has deteriorated significantly through the years. The TSSAA has a real problem and they seem indifferent to even make an attempt to solve it. There are to many referees that have a worse attitude as some of the players. The coaches have absoulutely NO input on the development of the officials, it is left strictly up to supervisors. The fact coaches cannot rate an official on anything is unimaginable but is only typical of the TSSAA and the way they operate. For the coaches to not have any imput into the officials, is taking a vital part of the game and saying we (TSSAA)know more than the coaches, which is ridiculous. By the way, the woman in question is the wife of a well known superviser of officials and has only been officiating about 3-4 years, for the record.

i was at shelbyviille girls camp this year when new refs were getting evaluated. maybe need to bring in older refs in periodically with simalar setting for training and evaulation. also noticed at many summer tournments refs tend get fustrated with specators and want to eject them with little cause??
