From Knoxville News Sentinel:

"Senior Philip Pfeifer, one of the nation’s top prospects, exited after pitching the first inning. Pfeifer earlier missed a month of the season with arm troubles.

“Something was not feeling right in his arm,†said Buckner.

“He’s hurting … he wouldn’t come out unless he was hurting.â€

Buckner said Pfeifer is questionable for the sectional game.

“Friday is probably not an option. That would be my guess.â€

Farragut just may will have to do it without Pfeifer.

Coach speak. Wouldn't read too much into it. People who were there have told me they didn't see anything from him to indicate he was too hurt. More like the cold weather made it tighten up. But I guess we shall see won't we?

TSSAA fixed the problem. Game will be at MC. Not sure how much of a difference a few miles will make for either team though, should be a good game. Wonder if Buck would gamble on throwing Pfeifer so they wouldn't have to go to Kingsport? Most of the time I would always say rest him for sub-state, but with D-No probably waiting on the loser, I just don't know.

Anyone have any predictions for SH/Jeff Co. game? How's Jeff Co. this year I've only seen SH play.

I'd be shocked if Buckner used Pfeifer in a non-elimination game. Either way, should be a good game.

If Pfeifer is okay to pitch the only way you will see him tonight is in relief for an inning if he is needed. My guess is Chandler will start. If he can pitch the way he did earlier in the season it will be a close low scoring game.

I covered the game for WVLT. HD highlights in ten minutes!

I was impressed with Farragut's resiliency. They did a nice job battling back when they were down to their last two outs. Maryville's kids showed a lot of heart, but the untimely error by the first baseman doomed them.

On another note, I hope somebody gets the Admiral student section under control. Kids will be kids, but calling players on the other team "homos" and chanting individual names on the losing team after the game isn't acceptable. It reflects poorly on what is a fine school with great tradition and nice people.

But that did little to blight what was an impressive comeback performance. Best of luck to both teams in substate!

Thanks for the highlights Wes, I think you guys do the best job out of the big 3 of covering baseball, and the HD looks awesome. And yeah, those kids have been a problem all year.. Ralph Skinner has gotten on to them multiple times. Hopefully they'll quit, but thanks for updates/highlights.

Thanks for the kind words. Covering the high schools is my favorite part of the job...I love the passion and purity at that level.

I'll be in Murfreesboro all week next week. Hope to see you guys there!

Very good baseball game to watch. Congrats to FHS for winning the region and staying away from Norris at Science Hill. After trailing most of the game, they made enough plays to keep it close and then pull it out in the 7th. The E on the MHS 1st baseman was huge, but there was only one out and tying/winning runs could have still been driven in. Too many plays and chances in a close game to blame one play. Farragut was probably fortunate in the 7th, but MHS was fortunate with the 2 lasers Delmonico hit earlier in the game. FHS made comeback and deserved the region title.

I'm new to the high school scene. Are these two teams good enough to have a shot in Murfreesboro? It doesn't look like either one of them hit it really great. Maybe it's that way all across the state in high school. I've always believed the old saying "you must have good pitching to get there, but when you get there, you better be able to hit it because everyone has good pitching". After watching these teams play 6 times this year, I wonder about the hitting. Thoughts?

I'm glad someone besides me brought up the student section. Yes, kids will be kids - if you let them. If they don't know how to act, their parents should keep them at home until they don't act like kids in public. They aren't 10 to 12 anymore. Most are driving and getting ready to vote, move out on their own, or (heaven forbid) being sent to the desert to defend our country. By the age of the kids I see at the games showing their ####, they should know how to act by now. Surely, they are not allowed to act that way at home, at school, at church, or anywhere else. If their parents are not there to "control" (bust their butt) them, then the AD's should escort them out. These ideas are not meant just for the FHS student section. I don't care if it's my kids or the governor's kids, they should be representing their family and school in the right way when at a game. It is possible to support your team (while riding both the ump and the other team) without taking away from the game. If a coach or an adult in the stands acted some of these "kids", they would either be escorted away or there would be a fight in the stands. IMO - When anyone in the stands becomes a distraction from the game itself, they should be forced to leave.

    • Yea I agree I will say tho I was a big “ v “ fan if an  opening ever did happen I think it would’ve been good to see him have a shot coming from a power house like Oakland. I’m sure he’s learned a lot from Kevin.  I bet he would bring a really good offense scheme IMO But after all this I just dunno anymore.  Whatever happens with the rumors an such if it did come to and opening I think this messes it all up.  The board members dreams are slowly slipping away now. I haven’t lived there for awhile I just hear what I hear, but my question is would there be any good potential candidates?? That’s why I don’t understand why people want b s out so bad who else could do any better ?? IMO there’s nothing attractive about it? As I stated earlier I went to the last game last year and taking a leak in a porta Potty is pretty sad and still nothing being done they say ..
    • I have a sophomore that can do 177 (preferred) or 192. Sent you an email.
    • speaking of board members how can a man get arrested 12 days ago and still be head coaching a team in TC school system? looks like your right about the tc board members. I bet it would be different if they had a kid on the team
