Centennial looked better than ever before. Turnovers and special team mistakes will get you beat. Common mistakes first game.

Looked better? Seriously?

These kids are playing the same way they did last season.

Coaching hasn't made any effect whatsoever. These kids just aren't ball players.

After watching the highlights if #6 goes down, the Cougs are in trouble.

The offensive line is bad, really bad.

The secondary was pathetic.

Results may improve once Franklin is out of the way and they can play someone on their level.

If Franklin some how loses in the biggest upset EVER next week, I'll be the first to admit I was wrong.

It's going to be a long night next Friday.

I think it's a little premature to be writing off the Cougars. It was their first game and they played like it. They will improve.

Good videos! CHS did look good besides the special teams and pass defense. But what helped them look good was a horrid Overton O-Line (or at least it looked to be so). Franklin doesn't have the best O-Line this year, but I do not see CHS being able to put that much pressure on Kuivinen like they did the Overton QB.

You dont have a clue. This team is miles ahead the teams from the past two years. Discipline wise, they are ahead of every other chs team. Give it a little time. The discipline will pay off.

Anyone that thinks one game after one summer with a new coach can determine the season is an idiot.

Keep working hard, CHS. It will pay off. Your time is coming.

Franklin lost their opening game too, to a very mid to low level Rutherford County school. CHS lost to a top metro team. Yeah, yeah, I know, its metro. That argument wont fly. Overton is a quality team with a better history than Franklin.

Turnovers killed CHS. A phantom pass interference that got called sent the game in a completely different direction.

CHS is going to get their wins. Next week against Franklin? I dont know. If they do, it wont be the huge upset you seem to think it will be. These boys can play and will be getting better every day. They have no pressure this week. They are not supposed to win, so they can relax and lay it all on the line. All the pressure is on Franklin.

C-C-CHS Nation, There is always two sides to every story...

The story all summer revolved around the arrival of Coach Brian "lil' Saban" Rector and his entourage onto the Cougar's Campus. He rode into town from his sabattical at Western Kentucky upon majestic steeds of past success and promises of future championships. He preached a gospel to the oppressed football program at Centennial that promised the land of "milk and honey". He spoke of bringing these children out of the "red-headed-step-child" role they had played over the past 13 years. And in all reality, who could oppose him? He had taken the upstart Ravenwood Raptors to the state finals twice, and won once. He was THE coach Rector... Many believed him to be the messiah of Centennial football. He brought words like "Character", "Commitment", and "Courage", he brought new uniforms, to the CHS community he brought hope... They say patience is a virtue, well the wait was supposed to be over.

Friday night August 28, 2011 revealed Rector to be a trickster Messiah as the other side of the story was shown to CHS nation. Once again Centennial is 0-1, and it appears to be the same song just a different verse. Regardless of a new look the Cougars still seemed sloppy on the field, and made the same mistakes that Centennial faithful have become accustomed too. I was under the impression that "Lil' Saban" was the remedy to these Friday night woes? Behind the guise of "Character, Commitment, Courage" many Centennial athletes littered the stands after Rector had called these 15, 16, and 17 kids "not-good-enough". Rector has taken groups of kids who chose to attend to CHS in order to stay with their friends; The same friends that they had played football with since the Franklin Cowboy ages and broke the kids up by declaring who was "in" and who was "out". Friday night found Rector's Cougars also deemed "not-good-enough", and after a loss to Overton High School (which nobody expected) "Lil' Saban" continued to assert his totalitarian regime... He proceeded to force the kids to line up across the goal line (in full pads & helmets) and tear into them over their performance for a solid 15 minutes. After which he made the broken team clean up the field (still in pads and helmets) while he retreated to his lair to marinate in his disgust. He sure dictated to those kids who was in charge. On Friday night Rector asserted his status as the "Mass'a" of Centennial High.

Maybe Rector's C-C-C was meant to represent the "Cleaning Cougar Custodians"

I do have a clue since I've seen Centennial for several years now. Discipline is great and I agree you have to have it. Until you cash in with wins no one gives a crap how disciplined they are. That's just the world we live in.

Does this game determine the season? Heck no but it's going to be tough sledding being 0-2. Luckily they play Antioch before they catch Indy. I saw Indy's defense against Blackman. Their D is for real if everyone stays healthy.

The phantom call just sounds like an excuse plain and simple. Suck it up and play ball. Every game has ups and downs.

It won't be a huge upset? Franklin destroyed a Hendersonville defense that would run circles around the Cougs. Centennial must play their best game ever with Franklin having several miscues on offense, defense, and special teams. Add in some turnovers and who knows? I just don't see a Clayton coached team letting all of that happen. I hope it's a close game that's fun to watch but I think I'll check out the Smyrna at Riverdale game instead.

Good luck to the Cougs and Rebs on an injury free contest.

Taco is an idiot, but is usually more dead on than those that try to fight with him. At least he is a full supporter of Centennial. Lets cut some slack here on a program that everyone knows has huge uphill battles to face before they can experience a complete turn around. They've played one game. Get a grip.

The mean spiritedness of so many that post here against Centennial shows a complete lack of personal character. Those posters reveal much more about themselves than they could possibly reveal about Centennial football, since it is obvious they don't know much at all about it.

    • Way late on this post, but I do believe that I want to at least weight in so to speak lol. I wrestled NAIA competed against some of the best wrestler over all a crossed the divisions and felt great about my college wrestling experience. I think people make the mistake in believe that wrestling some how gets easier as a sport at the smaller college divisions it doesn't the training is mostly the same. I have that on good authority from a coach who was a D1 all-American. it's more the commitment level of the competitors that is different. There is talented wrestlers that can go D1 at any level in the smaller division. sub in Sammy Shires for one he would have done fine on a DI team. He chose a work life ratio that suited him. It's not about talent it's commitment are you going to make training and studying the sport the center of your world cause that's what it takes: NO MATTER HOW TALATENTED BEFORE HAND YOU ARE.  If so then D1 is for you and striving for success at that level is for you like Mr. Palmer said it's what your willing to put in. Now coaches if you have a successful wrestler who fits that bill then by all means D1 is a great option they will see some success no matter how small, but if they are not that committed along with being talented and a killer and you know it then your doing them wrong.  You don't have to tell athletes that you don't think they are D1 tell them to keep their options open to take all their visits to consider all the divisions regardless of their goals. college recruiting visits have you most times wrestle against their current wrestlers coaches and athletes  will find out real quick it's not easy no matter where you go. That way when they make their decision it's a sound one that's based on well rounded experiences.     BobCorker, and oceansize42 I believe what you are thinking is correct but for different reasons. TN wrestler's have the talent... it's a commitment level change. TN wrestlers aren't used to having to put themselves through the level of commitment required and kills them on the D1 level.    WrestlingGod, I agree you should push kids to pursue their dreams, but not at the cost of common sense period... we have to much of that going around this country already. Dreams can turn to poison when these wrestler are not educated on what it truly takes. In TN  a kid who understands wrestling to a high level can be successful with small amounts of hard work. They think their definition of hard work is enough for D1 that is the mistake not the "talent/understanding".  Over-all though we do not celebrate NAIA,D2,D3, or Juco success in this state like other states do. GA/AL celebrates all it's college wrestlers success a crossed the  board no matter the division. Why? because it's hard... I have gone to all the divisions National championships let me tell you to be a all-American at any is impressive especially D2 or NAIA. those guys can scrap and not one of those AA's are an easy match. all of them were state placers or champs multiple times in their high school careers. does that at all sound easy to place at? TN does not give those guys enough credit or shout outs period. it's an over sight because of this D1 or it's less than meaningless   mentality on this site and in this state. GA/AL is better then us on the highest stage because they send guys to D2,NAIA,D3 ect. they come back understanding the sport better then their pervious coaches, and give back and that cycles to athletes readiness to go D1 with clearer understanding of what it takes to be competitive day 1 freshman year.             My post isn't to support one way or the other but to just consider that both sides have merit and that both work when the system in TN. by system I mean coaches are the better educated on preparing athletes for each level they want and should pursue.
    • If you think McKenzie could've beat Riverside I have a bridge you might like to buy.
    • Hate to hear Ricky is heading to the old folk's home!
    • By recruiting, I mean members of a coaching staff are talking to, meeting with, giving tours, to students, and their guardians, that are not zoned for their school.    there’s no way that many non Bearden kids just showed up all at once without being recruited. It can’t be a coincidence that all those kids also went through the middle school all star game your boss puts on every year.
    • Not sure how I would put it as recruiting perhaps kids trying to better their career by going to a head coach and coaching staff with connections all over college football that gets them the opportunity to go play college football and be coached by a coach with a pretty good track record.
